Darling is right in saying he has to change from a thrower to an actual pitcher (paraphrasing)...96-98 covers a lot of warts. He still has trouble locating his FB (now down 3-4 ticks) and they spit on his slider and change (believe MJ said this)...So if he can't consistently locate, he's toast

This was my Harvey observation during spring:

Praying Harvey goes 5 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 3 Ks each turn is going to get old fast.

It has gotten old before the end of April.

But thats like saying if Jay Bruce loses his power this year "He's gotta change from a power guy to a on-baase guy with a good hit tool!"

Pitchers have succeeded throwing Harvey-type stuff. Just like corner OFers have been fine without hitting 30 home runs.

Doesn't mean Harvey can succeed with this type of "stuff". And ditto that Bruce can be valuable if he's not hitting for power.

(I'm not trying to pick on Bruce, just was an easy analogy)

Again, have always wanted Harvey off the team once his d-ness became apparent (douchey, diva whatever). That said ...

We're living through a golden period now, in my opinion, where each starter is interesting to watch b/c of the "stories" behind them. Matz and Wheeler - young guys trying to live up to the potential so many saw in them, Thor and Degrom - dominating aces and Harvey - victim of surgery and hubris, a "superhero" humbled and trying to get by without his superpowers.

When we lose Harvey part of that is gone. Watching Vargas, Gsellman, Lugo, etc - not nearly as involving. Trachsel had some good-ish periods but doesn't mean I was ever pumped to see him play.

Harvey's one of the least likeable "stars" of recent Met past, who have luckily mostly had guys that were very easy to root for (I'll note that when Reyes was a "star" here he certainly had that quality, pre-allegations...but there were always rumors there, so he may be an exception).

From Piazza to Alfonzo to Wright to Pedro to Beltran...

So excuse me if I'm not necessarily shedding a tear for Harvey on the way out. He was very good for a very short time. He's been awful for a longer time. Its time to move on. The 2013/2015 guy isn't coming back. He's been like this since the 9th inning of Game 5. I know TOS gets the lion's share of the blame, but before TOS in 2016 he was awful too. It happens sometimes.

Move on. Should have done so last offseason. Don't compound the mistake now.

This. Very much, this.

Harvey looked pretty good during the spring (both on the mound and in the box score). So this start is very frustrating. It's like once the game starts, he goes into a lackluster tossing mode.

He did?

I thought so. He had more movement on his pitches, his velocity was 1 or 2 MPH higher than it is now (could be bad radar guns), and he looked confident.

He's back to 2017 pitching mode.

Taking this a step further, all the folks who keep referencing Colon should take a look at his career stats and recognize how many years he spent in the wilderness in his evolution from thrower to pitcher. The guy has basically had two careers. It didn’t happen overnight.
