@AnthonyDiComo Replying to @AnthonyDiComo The umpiring crew says Jay Bruce was called out in the first inning, despite the fact that he did nothing wrong. He's 0-for-1. Cabrera's double stands.
Ok, I'm done with the out of turn stuff, and back onto my other soapbox...
NL BASEBALL WOOT!!! The pure beauty of seeing Zack Wheeler strike out there without really any chance of providing a hit there makes me know all is right and pure. God forbid the Reds have to actually face a real hitter there to get through a 2nd and 3rd, 1 out jam - THAT would be blasphemous.
If he's out of order soon as Cabrera came into the batters box it should have been automatic out. If challenged after the fact then Cabrera still out but then lineup card is fixed so Bruce is ok at 4? I have no idea this is dumb.
I scouted a game where the Giants did it, but I also scouted a game with a Major Leaguer stole first base, so I might have just had weird luck
But most of those are substitution issues and it seems a lot of them didn't even get logged as an official out of turn.
This is the one I can find that has similarities:
5/20/2009 - The Brewers were playing in Houston. In the bottom of the first inning, Michael Bourn batted first and singled to right. Brewers manager Ken Macha came out to talk with HP umpire Eric Cooper and pointed out that Kazuo Matsui was listed first on the lineup card. Matsui was called out and it was Bourn's turn to hit. This time, Bourn walked and scored when Lance Berkman doubled. The Astros won despite the flub, 6-4.
So by this, Cabrera should have been ruled out, and Bruce hits, right?
