Brandon Nimmo: MVP.

This is the rule. Good luck applying it here:

WHEN PLAYER BATS OUT OF TURN. When a player bats out of turn and is
put out, and the proper batter is called out before the ball is pitched to the next
batter, the official scorer shall charge the proper batter with a time at bat and score
the putout and any assists the same as if the correct batting order had been followed.
If an improper batter becomes a runner and the proper batter is called out for having
missed his turn at bat, the official scorer shall charge the proper batter with a time at
bat, credit the putout to the catcher and ignore everything entering into the improper
batter’s safe arrival on base. If more than one batter bats out of turn in succession,
the official scorer shall score all plays just as they occur, skipping the turn at bat of
the player or players who first missed batting in the proper order.

ASCab goes into the books as a put out to the catcher.

Bruce should lead off the 2nd.

I guess not. Bruce is the one who loses an AB and ACab gets to keep the double. Makes more sense, sort of.

Does it, though? Bruce [would have] batted in his right spot.

It's either that or take down ACab's double.

Ya know, I'm inclined to say that the rule should be that once the player bats, it's too late to be penalized for it. After ACab doubles, it should've been too late to harm the Mets for it.

Wheeler changed up his pre-game routine today to be better prepared for the first. He pitched to a couple of simulated batters in the bullpen. The purpose being to pretend he threw his first inning prior to the actual game.

That's smart.

My interpretation:

Wilmer is the batter who batted out of turn, skipping Cabrera. Cabrera should have been ruled out after WIlmer's at bat, and the inning over.

Seems like the umps just winged the remedy on this one.

Still, smart by Riggleman to wait because if Cabrera gets out, the Mets likely bat out of turn again next time around and maybe that time they do it during a scoring chance.

Wow, Wheeler looks GREAT. 91 MPH slider gets Votto.

Mets should protest game. I think umps misapplied the rule denying Bruce a chance to bat.

This is exactly it. Batting out of turn is something an opposing manager brings up.

They could have waited until later in the game for Cabrera to hit a grand slam and then bring it up.
