The things you cited other than just his "one good year", though, were the following:

- 38 plate appearances last September
- Spring Training performance
- A 7 game home stretch in Vegas starting on May 8

The Mets have received "in-season" calls on both DeGrom and Thor...sharks circling?

Shefield and Montgomery for deGrom

Rodgers and Welker for Noah

Domo, Gimenez, Nimmo and Matz for Realmuto

Dump Bruce

Sign AJ Pollack this offseason

2020 would be lit! Five lefties in the rotation!

Shefield, Montgomery, Peterson, Kay and Szapucki

Dunn (CL)

Pollack (CF)
Rodgers (2B)
Conforto (RF)
Cespedes (LF)
Alonso (1B)
Realmuto (C)
Welker (3B)
Rosario (SS)

Do it Sandy!

That's an absolutely insane amount for Realmuto.

I didn't check, but I'd assumed it was more than a 7 game stretch. Maybe that's all it was.

The facts are that the mets weren't impressed enough with his 38 plate appearances to keep him on the 40 but they were impressed enough by his spring to add him back to the 40. I wouldn't call it meaningless if the mets liked how he looked.

Once on the 40, it's tough to judge cause guys get called up or sent down as needed, but I think Evans spring impressed the mets. Otherwise, why would they give a roster spot to him?

Mets would have to be way out of contention for me to entertain the thought of trading either. Unless you're going to tell me they're going to sign Keuchel and Machado or Harper. Then heck yeah, raid a teams minor league system for deGrom.

Let's buy AND sell!

If we sell Thor or deGrom, it better be an absolute fleecing.

No one is taking Bruce. Cabrera maybe.

I also wouldn't touch AJ Pollack. Great player who always seems to have some sort of fluke injury.

This might be the first time I would entertain it, although I'm not sure if I'd let Sandy make that trade with one foot out the door.

But let's be honest if this team isn't a contender this year (and they look like the fourth best team in the division so they probably won't be), when the heck are they going to be in the next few years with the Phillies and Braves on the ascent while we're clearly on the decline with zilch in the farm and an unwillingness to spend for the true big ticket items? Maybe the Nats finally fall back this offseason but as long as they have their two aces and are a Bora$ feeder system they won't be completely irrelevant.

I love Thor and deGrom but between the Yankees, Braves and Cubs/Astros we've been beaten over the head the last few years that young, dynamic position players >>>> young pitching, and we don't have the former at all. Rosario, Conforto and Dom were supposed to be that nucleus but they haven't been to this point for a variety of reasons.

I'd rather put players around Thor and deGrom than retool and then try to replace them.

They're the ones who are hard to find.

Through May 7: .226/.301/.398
May 8 - May 14: .360/.370/1.040

Adding him at the end of ST was certainly warranted based on his play in ST, but lets not act that means all that much. Ty Kelly basically followed the exact same path in 2017.
