It is with great sadness that I want to relay the message that Tim Camp, Chico as he was known here, passed on quite awhile ago. I had wondered what he was up to and Chinabox relayed the bad news.

For those of you who did not really know him, he was an astoundingly kind man. I am crushed, and had missed his presence. Chico and I go back to NJ.com days and we followed each other over here back in 2001-2002, or thereabouts. I created the Chico Good Vibes club in both places because he was such a voice of reason, and I admired his ever-present positivity. He was a true fan in the best sense.

I am heartbroken that I did not realize he was truly gone. The boards are never the same when we lose members, especially when we sometimes don't even realize we have lost them.

It was just a reminder for me that folks on here are often like family. We disagree, we come, we go, but there is something special about being connected with people, even face-lessly...he and I joked sometimes that I was a PLW, and he was ML-focused. He always wondered what my obsession was with Bobby Freakin' Parnell.

HE was the big leagues, and I miss my forum friend.

For any long-term members, or short-termers for that matter who knew him, I would love to read some stories.

I don't really have the standing to post in this thread but just wanted to add that I was reminded in reading the "Beach Ball" thread the other day that Chico and Old Backstop were my two favorite posters (no offense) when I was a longtime lurker. And some months ago, I actually looked up Chico on here to see when his last post was and with the hope that he would post again. I'm very sorry to hear this news and enjoyed his posts for the very reasons you described.

Very sorry to hear this. He was one of the true veterans here. And always a voice of reason.

So very sad to read about this. He was one of the nicest members of the NYFS community and very knowledgeable as well. He will be missed. RIP Chico

Horrible news. It was great to hear him talk about the Mets when they were just starting out in the 60's.

jdawg is reminding us all of something that I think we know at some level to be true, but don't often recognize because of the quasi-reality of an online community like this one: each of us is real, and our relationships are real, too. NYFS has been around long enough for us to develop friendships, to see emotional growth in those we come in contact to, to feel loss when someone fades from our routine, and to feel a deep and very real sadness when we learn of a loss like what we're experiencing as a community with Chico/Tim.

We don't know why people stop posting -- there are any number of very good and understandable reasons -- and my unfortunate guess is that some familiar names are also no longer with us. NYFS has dealt with public loss of a community member before, and sadly, due to the cruelty of time and nature, we will continue to lose each other. As Kurt Vonnegut would say: And so it goes.

My instinct is to say that we'll miss "Chico," but the truth is NYFS is a world where we're a half step from reality, and we won't be missing "Chico." We'll be missing Tim, at least much as we enjoyed his very real company when he was around for the ride.
