The Mets are 100% not going to trade for Robinson Cano. Take that to the bank. They're probably "being aggressive" in offering to essentially take on no money, if the M's include more in return, and the M's are kindly saying no thanks. This is not a "Mets move" at all. A bigger pocketed team will take on more contract than s comfortable but get real value attached to it and give up nothing in return. And likely also have the DH available to them.

This is what Martino does in the offseason. Mets are "hot" on every big rumor. Nothing ever comes to fruition.

Can he? Oh sure we can stand him there like we've done with so many others, but is it a good idea?

He's likely better at 3B than at 2B. Why is this hard to accept? He showed plenty of life in his arm.

Because his arm isn't all that strong and he'll be throwing to the young 1B who everyone has concerns with.

He has plenty of arm strength for 3B. That said, you don't move him for Cano. You can move him if you are improving the team with a Merrifield or Lowrie or DJLM.

2018 position players worth 2+ fWAR or greater who were 36 years old or older...Ben Zobrist and Ian Kinsler. 37+ rarified air for Zobrist, the ONLY 37 year old in baseball league worth 2+ fWAR in '18. Seems like a good time to hitch your wagons to a 36-41 year old player.

Not even sure how that's being aggressive if the M's motivation for moving him is to get out of the $ obligation. But yeah, obviously this isn't happening. Just interesting that we are connected here when BVW is the guy who got Cano that deal in the 1st place.

Heyman says they passed on Ellsbury (and his contract is 75% insured) so this Mariners taking on really bad money or paying a lot of money seems far fetched. Say they take Jay Bruce. No NL team would be paying Robinson Cano 5 years 92 million (120-Bruce's 28), and certainly not one with Rosario, McNeil, Alonso, Gimenez as hopefully "core" pieces to the roster.

CaNO No NO

If you're willing to take on a huge contract and dump something call the Diamondbacks
Bruce and Vargas for Greinke

Diaz alone isn't even enough to make that deal. It would have to be Bruce + Fraz or Swarz for Cano + Diaz plus like $30M. And we know a deal like that isn't happening.

At that point, you might be able to flip Cano to an AL team (once his $ has dropped that much).

Ahhh, that gets me thinking:

Ms get Bruce, Vargas, Dunn
Mets get Diaz, Ellsbury
Yankees get Cano, $15M from Mets, $15M from Ms

What's the timing on the NL adding the DH? Cause that's the only way this makes some sense to me.

According to this article, it was the M's who reached out to the Mets, not the "Mets being aggressive".

https://calltothepen.com/2018/11/26/new ... nson-cano/

I think Gimenez is a year away/September call up type or maybe hold off till 20 days into 2020 to get the extra year, so he's not a factor in 2019 and if they get the DH in 2020, this just might work, but I'd like it better if the Mariners eat a lot of salary and throw in a nice prospect.

Mets top prospects play 1b and SS/2b. They just had a rookie post post 2.7 fWAR over 63 games as a 2b. Robinson Cano for 5 years would be SO Mets it's scary. Diaz or not. C'mon.

McNeil can play 3rd.

Actually his arm is below average. They also aren't moving 9 million to the bench in Frazier c'mon and then Gimenez plays where? He's out of the plans now? Cano is closer to a 1b than a good 2b at this point. How many teams block their top prospect who is opening in AAA with a 36 year old declining player with 5 years left?

If you’re actually taking on Robinson Cano’s contract you aren’t worried about having $9 million on the bench for one year.

18 million with Lagares and you ARE blocking Gimenez "forever" if McNeil and Rosario are any good. He's no longer part of your plans. Your #1 prospect just to add a RP and 5 years of Cano.

Maybe they’ll move Gimenez to the outfield too :P
