Anyone know what happened?

Did BVW do a Gillooly on him?

He can only play when Cano does......

Hurt his wrist sliding into 2B on a steal attempt.

New GM. Same BS.

Can't wait till this time next year and Mets are looking to get rid of Cano. Maybe they can pair him with Gimenez and Peterson in a trade for some A-Ball players.

I thought realistically ... Cano would be solid and Diaz would be very good in their 1st year on the team

People who liked the trade can make claims about how if we wanted we can trade Diaz and get a great prospect back (to make up for the loss of Kelenic/dunn) .. that if we want .. we can dump Cano to an AL team if we wanted to clear cap space

It STILL would have been a terrible trade ... but at least there would have been argument

But ... This was the nightmare scenario

This was the nightmare risk that was always possible .. but what many chose to close their eyes to

Diaz value has plummeted

Cano is untradable

Our budget is a mess

and to add to the nightmare

Kelenic over-performed expectations! .291/.364/.540 (.904 OPS over 3 levels)

.857 OPS at AA as a 20 year old!

Dunn ... 158/39 k/bb in 131 innings at AA 10+ K-rate!

I'm looking forward to Gerson Bautista emerging next year and closing games for the mariners by the end of the 2020 season #-o

Always forget Dunn was part of that deal.

Hurts, and I'm not one who thinks the deal was wet hot garbage at the time. Just everything that could have gone wrong did last year.

Cano - mediocre and hurt
Diaz - inexplicable freefall in results

Bruce - Does well in his role in Philly
Schwartzy - Does well in his role in Atlanta
Dunn - pitches well in minors
Kelenic - continues his rise

Hopefully 2020 and beyond turn out better. Cano is doing very well, and Diaz (while having his moments) is K'ing 20/9ip. Not bad.

Well, Bruce and Schwartzy would have been gone anyway, Dunn doesn't look all that wonderful right now. It comes down to Diaz vs. Kelenic with the Mets picking up Cano's salary to get into the game.

Still a bad deal. Diaz cost the Mets a playoff spot last year. I feel he will join John Franco, Armando Benitez, and Billy Wagner as Met closers that walk a tightrope with every appearance. Seattle sold high, for sure.

I like what Robbie has done so far in 2020, but keeping him on the field looks like it is going to be an issue. I think if he used sparingly, they can stretch his value to them out, however "used sparingly" and "still owed $72 million dollars" don't exactly align!

Yeah, everything just broke wrong last year. Not that I'm a fan of the DH, but that could really help maximize Cano's return here.

Nevertheless, it was an awful trade. Relievers are notoriously volatile. Cano was 36 and overpaid.

They traded a top 25 prospect for that.

Hey, interesting question here:

If Cano wins the WS MVP and Diaz has three saves in the WS in this weird, shortened COVID year, was the trade worth it?

Depends on the career that Kellenic has...
Still leaning towards no...

Won't look for the Stroman thread and can't find the tweet (anyway), but supposedly Anthony Kay is throwing 97 out of the Blue Jays pen. :(

Yeah, and if you're using the "He's 19" logic, then I guess the best report a scout could give us is:

"I have no idea. He's a teenager. He may go through 5 arm surgeries between now and his 30th birthday. He may add a pitch. He may lose a pitch. He may put on 30 lbs and add velocity. He may put on 50 lbs and eat his way out of the league. I literally have no idea what he is going to be."

But thats not what these guys are paid to do, nor what we are looking for them to do, right?
