Mets have yet to make offer to deGrom per a source. Degrom's side was told two months ago offer would come. Now, there's a deadline. There is some frustration building.

I suppose in hindsight it was foolish of anyone to think that this would be the one player they wouldn’t jerk around in this stuff.

Those good vibes ended quick. All about the posturing though so let's see.

I still expect this to get done but the fact that it will take brinksmanship through the papers is extremely Mets.

Talk about foolishness. This is a foolish comment by Jeff. A deGrom extension is not going to get played out in the media. If it's going to get done, it'll get done and it won't be with Martino or others doing play by play. Are people really doubting BVW's ability and earnestness as a player advocate? Has this winter not been a welcome and positive shift in behavior for this franchise... from aggressive actions on players to building out of the entire FO?

Everything in a negotiation is posturing, including arbitrary dates. Moreover, suggesting possible self-imposed innings limits sounds like a very aggressive tactic that will prob not endear him to the team, so these things rub both ways.

Again, if there is a deal to be had here, it'll get done. I realize it's a slow news period, so this will get played up, but I don't think it's really a thing at all.

This is where I strongly disagree. ALL of the beats have the same story this morning meaning.. it's out there from DeGrom's camp for a reason and not some fictional "non-story". His agent is on record as thinking innings/usage limits are a legitimate tool for pitchers going forward so whether DeGrom actually does it.. who knows? But it's a legitimate "option" per his agent.

This has taken way too long. The Mets were "exploring" it last year.

They met on 12/2, and if you believe reports he was told negotiations would commence shortly. So it's been 9 weeks and (again we can only go by what's out there) nothing communicated from the Mets.

This is just headed down a slippery path in general where players will be forced to protect themselves more and thus the fans will further "blame" players when it impacts their team.

I'm referring to how the Mets publicly said they were exploring an extension during last season.

You can sign a free agent in days. This shouldn't take months.

deGrom deserves to have the chance to go this route. Coming off such an amazing season but not at the young age that most people with the limited time he has........this is his best chance to get as much as he can get. And he deserves it. H won't regress all that much over the next few seasons unless a major injury. He knows HOW TO PITCH
