Mets have signed a bunch of minor leaguers, released a few players, traded a few more. I thought I'd try to get a handle on the Syracuse rooster, I mean, roster.

I'm sure I'm forgetting a few, but:

C: Colton Plaia and Minor League signing vet - Monell/Lobeton type - for depth. d'Arnaud opens on the DL, Nido opens in the majors. Maz could be here as well, but I think they'll sign an MLB vet for depth.

1B: Alonso (for 21 days, maybe more), some time for Dom.

2B: Cheech. ., I mean, Dilson. Welcome back Pickles.

SS: Guillorme

3B: David Thompson (hope he's healthy). Toffey if he's not healthy. Is Phil Evans still a met?

OF: Tebow, Blanco, Rajai Davis. Is Kaz still with the team? That's why I shouldn't do these lists, I'm no good at keeping up with the Kazes.

Rymer Liriano has an opt out and could go to Japan or Korea, so I don't think he'll stick around for long if he doesn't impress in the spring and get some kind of guarantee that he'll see majors.

I won't do pitching, too many names, but feel free.

I'm short probably 2 maybe 3 bench players, but that's a start. Corrections welcome.

One guy to watch will be Gimenez, who probably starts in Bing. Maybe Toffey starts along side him. Carpio at 2nd. Paez backing up 2nd and catching. Sanchez catching and maybe Maz too . . . that's too many catchers. Possible Sanchez opens in St. Lucie. Brodey probably gets promoted to Bing. Unsure about Lindsay - his stats were terrible. Bing is probably another thread though.

Thoughts? Who did I overlook?

I could see both Blanco and Davis opting out if not on the ML roster. Dom likely in the OF.
Maybe even Dilson out there...

Cecchini is not gone quite yet.

Lockett, Oswalt, Flexen in the roto
Sewald, Bashlor, Taylor, Roseboom, Rhame, Peterson in the pen.

It is a sparse group out there. 2020 you might get Peterson, Kay, Szapucki, types.
Can't really think of too many more except Biondi, if he still around.

I think Blanco is here til June at least.

Davis has an opt out and Rhymer can go to Asia.

Just signed Barnes for OF here likely.

Any of these guys, do you think, the staff will start so they can work on secondary pitches?

Giminez will not open the season in Syracuse. They will have him on the same delayed path that Alonso was in in the previous year. The big exception is that Giminez is far younger.

Smith and Tebow seem to be the wild cards. I think they will share DH duties and get a lot of OF reps till Alonso gets the call. I think Smith will have to look like the second coming of Lou G to break camp with the team.

Nido will not be on the ML roster unless their is an injury to one of the two ahead of him on the depth chart. He will share duties with a AAAA catcher TBD.

Pre Spring Prediction:
- 2020 will be the Mets Big Year!
- Offense, Starting Pitching, Bull Pen will all be among the league leaders
- No now minor league players will make their mark in the big time.
- The talent emerging in the Mets A ball teams will convince us they can keep this trend going.

(As we transition from winter to spring, all things are possible)

There was a slew of milb signings without camp invites that happened earlier that I think are missing from these projections. Arismendy Alcantara is one I recall. Have to go back and find them all. Think Syracuse is going to be mostly milb vets.

So I would say all of these guys other than Rajai (who opts out) and Pizzano who looks AA bound are with Syracuse to start.

https://twitter.com/MetsFarmReport/stat ... 76/photo/1

Plus you had Braxton Lee and Chris Mazza in the Rule 5.

So something like:

C: Nido, Houle, Plaia
Infield: Alonso, Herrera, Guillorme, Thompson, Alcantara, Krizan
Outfield: Tebow, B. Lee, Blanco, Liriano, Kacz

SP: Oswalt, Conlon, Santiago, Lockett, Gagnon, Flexen
RP: Caminero, Hanhold, Peterson, Sewald, Zamora, ORourke, Rhame, Mazza, Torres, Taylor

There will be some DL stuff happening and likely some releases, as thats too many guys. And could depend on guys getting outrighted as well like Flexen, Gagnon, Peterson, Sewald - who all seem on the cusp if another arm gets added.

You're probably right. Gimenez doesn't need to be protected for next off-season either, so they'll probably keep him in the minors all year. No September call-up.
