He's out of options and they like to rotate 5-6 arms in and out of the minors so they can't do that with Font. Not a tremendous knock against him.

He's the last guy in their pen. He hasn't been terrible, but he hasn't been good enough to be shielded from cycling out as Tampa likes to do, so they cleared him out and my guesss will end up with a lottery ticket from low minors.

Remember 2017 when we traded our veterans for high end potential relief arms....Not one has turned out to be even decent. Can't wait for this deadline when we can rip off teams for MLB quality players for junk. Although I'm guessing this year the opposite will be the case.

To be fair...

In 2018 with Tampa Bay:

1.67 ERA, 0.96 WHIP 27 IP, 15 H, 11 BB, 20 K

You just have to take all the lousy pitching out of his past and he's actually pretty good!

I don't mind this. I also don't think it fixes much of anything.

The only absurd thing would be if we ended up giving anything of value up. I wonder if his performance determines the return! Haha.

If it is Will Toffey, or Kaz...no big deal.

I would be upset if they gave up Toffey - .440 OBP and can play a solid D at 3rd

The power doesn’t need to increase too much for him to fit into a starter profile

Toffey would be a pretty good return for Tampa, but I wouldn't lose sleep over it.

There is no way the return is a player anywhere close to being as good as Toffey. I'm not sure what the conditions are, but there's probably a good chance it ends up just being cash.

That wouldn’t make a ton of sense for Tampa as there had to be some inducement to the move- Font hasn’t been DFA’ed or anything.

That said there is likely a place between a top 20 prospect and $5 that the return falls into.

Font (too bad we don't have a feature where you can change fonts, we could have fun with that). Anyhoo, Font started 5 games for the Rays last year but only the last 2 were 5 inning starts and 4 times last year he went 4 or more innings and he started 25 games in AAA in 2017, alternating between a starter and a reliever in the minors, so he can go more than one inning pretty easily. Big guy too, listed 6'4 250 and in the article below "an athletic 6'4 265 lbs" - is that possible?

Read this article from 3 months ago and cross your fingers, you might even see a speck of upside.

Idk, these PTBNL or cash trades tend to end up being just cash (or someone of virtually no significance). Did we ever get a body from the Phillies for Jose Bautista?

Yeah, unless the PTBNL is someone completely unexpected, I don't have a problem with this. The real crime was not being better prepared before the season began.

I don't think so either, but that would be about the top level return they might ask for...and it wouldnt bother me as much as giving up pitching.

I agree it is probably cash of a sort, but I also wouldn't be surprised if it were a Mazeika-Sanchez type ask.
