Since that "one trick" is hitting baseballs very far, I think he'll be okay. Guys with real 40-HR power have long careers.

Alonso is Top 5 among all 1Bs in just about every defensive metric, anyways.

Alonso is batting .382/.462/.985/1.447 with 12 HR in 78 plate appearances in the 7th through 9th innings.

Not just a slugger, he's a monster late in games.

He should learn to slash singles the other way instead of hitting homeruns so he's not a one trick pony!

If Conforto is hitting as expected then you bat Alonso in front of him as they did earlier in the season and teams can't pitch around him.

Return him to batting second where he was mosst successful.

The game has changed, Mr. Nitelight. Look around baseball, it's littered with true one trick ponies.

At least Alonso's hitting .260 and not .210.

Do I like it? No. I hate this brand of baseball we find ourselves stuck with.
Is Alonso entertaining? Absolutely.

and struck out once a game and people are talking like he's the second coming. Get real people. When you have a chance to get the best reliever in the game who's only 24 and give up Kelenic in the deal, you MAKE that deal. Stop with the nonsense.

Why is he a one trick pony? He was a 290 minor league hitter?

But lets just assume you've got psychic powers and he will only hit for power but will always struggle with batting average. He's shown elite power.

What are examples of players with elite power who dont have long careers?

In Nitey's mind, Alonso basically is the following:

20 CON
80 POW
20 EYE
20 FIELD
20 RUN

What's his evidence though?

Nitey has never needed evidence. He gets something in his head and never changes his mind, then provides us snarky replies and they're ok because 8)

Is this the Nobel Committee?

I like this guy. I don't like that guy.

It's light entertainment that in the end doesn't add up to a whole hill of beans.

But I'm still right, and most of you are wrong.
