You're right. My bad. Like Aaron Boone playing basketball. I'm not sure doing work on his farm would qualify, but mets would be remiss not to explore that option. The insurance company might have a claim against him too. Stupid way to lose a chunk of a big contract.

Steve Henderson
Pat Zachary
Dan Norman
Doug Flynn

And it would have gone down as just as great of a trade.

I read those four names and I'm 11 years old, baseball obsessed, living on Long Island and trying to fight back the tears. This was the first time in my life that I realized that baseball was a business.

I was a little older but felt the same way. That was a quantity over quality deal if one ever existed. I know nothing about what the Pads offered but I am willing to bet it was a similar package.

Very interesting to think that the year before the Mets had a done deal with LA. Seaver going there for Don Sutton, Rick Sutcliffe and Pedro Guerrero

Who pulled out of the deal? That would have been a huge win for the mets. Might have messed up some of their high picks that lead to Gooden & Strawberry, but in terms of value that would have been a huge win.

I think it was the Mets. They were going to renegotiate with Seaver to hang onto him. This was in 1976. During the negotiations in 1977, Dick Young wrote a piece on Seaver's wife being jealous of the money Nolan Ryan was making. That did it. Seaver demanded a trade. The Reds were only too happy to oblige.

Interestingly enough, the Reds got one division title out of the Seaver years and never advanced to the WS. There were coming off of back-to-back world championships when they made this trade.

That Reds team starting breaking up soon after. Rose, then Morgan went to the Phils. Perez left. Bench retired.

Brewers are cleaning house on depth relievers...

Hart, Barnes, Wilson in two days or so.

I like nido, but the mets should absolutley go get Lucroy....

Dilson over Altherr now as welll. Mets should make sure they got good bench players if they are going to go with 4 the rest of the way and having Lagares as defense only guy...

Who knows what LuCroy can do this season. He had a nasty collision that resulted in a concussion and a broken nose.

Why mess with the Noah - Nido combo?

And I wouldn’t count on Dillon to replace Pete’s power
