This deal makes the Cano deal look infinitely worse btw... The Sox are paying way more than the Mets got from the M’s. Yeesh.

He gave up Betts ‘and’ Price who’s still useful despite his contract and got back Verdugo and a prospect his former team said would be a reliever and apparently the Sox were shocked to find out they were telling the truth.

Boston has just saved a ton of cash. Price has 3 years 96 mill left. That is 1 of worst contracts in MLB. They lost Betts who rejected 300+ million dollar offers. They were losing him anyway so they might as well avoid the luxury and start over. They added Verdugo,Downs and Wong. I like Graterol...and Dodgers do too.

Well Downs is a bit better of a prospect than Graterol tbh so that's less of a fleecing, but the Sox are also eating HALF of Price's deal for crying out loud. Betts on his own should have gotten one of Downs or Verdugo plus other stuff. Price at 50% retained is not a bad contract and should have gotten the other guy plus more stuff.

This sport has gotten so screwed up that teams are lusting over 19 year old prospects and by the time they are fully developed and have to begin paying them, they want to get rid of them.

No idea what they’re really thinking about the pen now that they confirmed that the gopher ball is returning other than to hope that Betances returns to being a beast and Lugo having another big season (which probably is too much to assume) and crossing their fingers on everyone else returning to normal. My expectations are very low. They could/should have done way more than they did.

They did? Well forget about that Diaz bounceback then.

Familia got his weight down, maybe that helps?

Diaz was also pretty unlucky.

Not sure how losing weight will help Familia throw strikes. Maybe helps his psyche? Good for him to try something instead of just saying to heck with it and just collecting his bloated paycheck.

Considering out AAA outfield depth, I think the Mets almost have to try to claim Garlick. He has two options left, too.

Believe he said it was hurting his balance and he was unable to follow through as a result. That could definitely leave balls up in the zone.

I doubt it can hurt. Not hoping for anything spectacular but it would be nice to see a serviceable pitcher. My feeling is if he shows nothing in ST, he won't be a Met anymore.

Both Marlins lefties were claimed. Given our lefty relief depth behind Wilson (Shreve, Zamora, ??), I would've had interest in both.
