I thought maybe JDD would be a good platoon candidate (just to get him off the field during some RHP games), but these splits:

Code:
 AVG    OBP    SLG    OPS
.305   .366   .520   .886
.252   .349   .571   .920

make it kind of clear that an obvious platoon partner wouldn't be much of an offensive upgrade.

The first line is JDD vs RHP in 2019 and the second line is Pederson vs RHP in 2019.

JD did such a good job of going with the pitch last year, he maybe a legit stud with no platoon splits. We will see more this year.

Wheeler with the early burn of 2020

Zack Wheeler told @GJoyce9 of The Post he’s not surprised he never heard back from the Mets last December before signing his new contract. Why wasn’t he surprised? “Because it’s them,” he said. “It’s how they roll.”

I can't say he's wrong. Top down, this org makes some confusing decisions.

MLB.com ranked their top 100 players in MLB for 2020.

deGrom comes in at number 8, one spot behind Gerrit Cole (I wonder how good he'll be with non-Astros spin rates on that 4-seamer :? ).

Alonso comes in at number 24, McNeil at 49, and Conforto at 78.

BVW bites back.

Brodie Van Wagenen said he was “surprised” and “disappointed” with Zack Wheeler’s comments yesterday, after the Mets “helped him parlay two good half-seasons over the last five into $118 million.”

so let me understand this

Wheeler expressed disappointment that the Mets didn't get back to hi and made a slight jab that "its how they roll"

and BVW fires back by putting down his accomplishments over the last 2 years and at the same time seems to also take CREDIT for the amount of money he got

Why?

BVW stop acting smarmy

Makes it hard to root for this team

Brodie prefers to pay pitchers who have had 0 good half seasons over the last 2 $10m. Because it doesn't matter if you have good players, just as long as you can ensure the owners don't have to pay the luxury tax.

Yeah such a petty road for BvW to take. If the Mets don’t want to be called out for bad behavior, they should reconsider how they treat people. And that’s not suggesting they had to outbid the Phils.

LOL that comment (and Brodie's snarky response) would make me MORE likely to cheer Wheeler when he returns and probably winds up beating us five times this year.
