I love JD and all that he brings with his bat and and his attitude. But man, he's just brutal in the field. What direction should the Mets take with him? Should they live with his defense in left? Or trade him? It's a dilemma

Is Dom Smith a better outfielder than JD?

Is JD a better 3B than OFer?

To me the Mets need to pick one of those two to keep.

My preference is for the RH given McNeil, Conforto and Nimmo, but defense and trade return can tip that comparison.

Keep him and live with his defense. He is the second righty in the lineup behind Alonso. He will also cost nothing for the next several years.

When this year started, he had no set role (remember those April games at third?) Hand him the LF job, coach him up, and bat him 4th between McNeil and Conforto.

Of course if Cespedes is ready next year, this goes out the window !

Play him....?

IMO, one of the coolest stories of the year.

All the arguments i've ever heard against Nick Castellanos apply to J.D. Yes, cool story though. Just not sure there's a home in the N.L. for him.

Wonder if he'd be any better in RF with that cannon he's got. Then the DH may be here within a year or so.

He doesn't have a lot of range in left, but he hits so well that he's still a net positive. He's a better corner outfielders than third baseman, so that's where he belongs. He should be the obvious choice to DH whenever the Mets have a choice (if Cano can't play the field, then he should be benched).

I remember Brodie being interviewed after the trade that he already had Cano penciled in for that eventuality

I thought Brodie brought Cano in for that possibility too

No, Cano's future position is DFA

Highly doubtful. He's the starter at 2b next year 100% guaranteed

Depth is good. I'd keep him unless they're blown away with an offer. Same with Dom.
