This Reds series won't be easy.

Castillo vs. deGrom
Desclafani vs. Wheeler
Matz vs. Bauer

Castillo is nasty. Luckily we have Jake going against him. Desclafani has been solid down the stretch. We need the good Wheeler to show up. And Bauer is no cake walk. Still don't understand why Cleveland traded him, being in a pennant race.

They have a ton of arms, and this might have been a case of addition by subtraction.

Plus they are 40 and 35 at home. Certainly no pushover. And Pete vs Suarez is going to be must see tv

Such a pity that they'll be 40-38 soon. But then they can turn it around against the Brewers and finish 43-38

It will take something LIKE a miracle for the mets to get in at this point. Jumping 2 teams at this point that are this far ahead is next to impossible. At least it makes the last week or so interesting as long as the Mets continue to win. Now if they do in fact go UNDEFEATED and end the season winning 12 straight, wow...........that would be something special.

The only thing that matters is who has the most wins at the end of the season. It doesn't matter how many teams you have to pass. Just win.

I'm interested in seeing if the Mets have some tricks up their sleeves. Maybe throwing deGrom on shorter rest once or twice? This is the time where some players need to step up and put the team on their back.

It matters because of nights like last night. You can’t really celebrate the Cubs losing because the Brewers already won so we couldn’t gain ground on an actual spot. It makes the nebulous cliche ‘having more wins’ a lot harder when you need two teams to lose and not just one. Especially with the Brewers upcoming schedule.

Right, you just run out of days on the calendar no matter how well you play. Thats why it matters. They have gone 10-6 in September - a good September run! That a 101 win pace! - and gained exactly .5 games in the WC hunt.

The Mets could go 10-0 and realistically not get in. They would then need the Brewers to go 6-3 to tie them. The Brewers have 9 games remaining - Pirates (3), Cincy (3), Colorado (3). It would be a MAJOR upset at this point for them to lose more than 1 game in any of those series.

But the Mets can only control their W/L record.

I know where you're coming from, but a hot streak will usually propel a team up the standings. Look at the Diamondbacks before they came to Citi Field. They went on a tear and a passed several teams before falling apart. If the Mets go 10-0 or 9-1, then they did everything they could at this point to win it.

I still predict that the Mets and Brewers compete for one spot, and the Cubs miss out.

I try to dwell on Leiter's CG SO over Cincy in Game 163 to get us into the WC

Mets never handle success well.

Traditionally they're better off if something screwy has to happen.....
