One more pitching depth move for the Mets, who have a minor league deal with Pedro Payano.

Payano, 25, made a brief Major League debut this year in Texas. He's mostly been a starter over eight seasons in the Rangers organization.

"Youth" appears to be his main positive attribute since 2017. Decent K-rate, so perhaps he has interesting splits?

He's got a nasty curve. Great spin rate.

He's pitching for Phil Regan in winter ball right now. He's not exactly finding much success, but have to imagine that played into this.

The Mets and injured outfielder Yoenis Cespedes have agreed to “amend” the remainder of his contract with the team, according to Andy Martino of SNY.tv (Twitter link). Details of the arrangement aren’t yet clear, but it seems there is a modification to the salary Cespedes will earn in the coming season.

As things stand, Cespedes is due $29.5MM in the final season of his four-year deal. He’ll remain under contract, but at a lower rate.

This is clearly where they suddenly found $10M extra to sign Porcello.

Mets sign CF Ryan Cordell to a minor league deal

Looks like a top flight defender in CF, has some pop, K’s a lot has great speed but not really a SB threat.

I really hope the Mets plan to do a couple more moves this offseason cause right now this is how the Mets have changed....

Wheeler —> Porcello
Mix of Minor League Guys —> Wacha
Lagares —> Marisnick
Avilan —> Betances
Frazier/Panik —> ?

I’m not really sure how much we have improved with our current roster... so far

Frazier/Panik is probably replaced with McNeil/Lowrie.

Guillorme is better than Panik, anyways. Panik was sub-replacement last season in total.

I just looked at Shreve's numbers. Not great in 2018, injured in 2019, walks a few too many, but overall, he's got great K rates and has pitched in NY. Still only 28. Interesting pickup. Wouldn't be surprised if he heads north with the team in April, depending on roster, injuries, etc...
