Pretty sure we’re going to see Rosario in that role.

Well his spot in the offseason is 3B (McNeil's). We can't know if he can or can't play there until sometime next season. But at the moment the team is better with a REAL CF, Nimmo in left and McNeil at 3B. Otherwise you have more guys out of position like they did this year.

All other things being equal, yes this is the most logical alignment, but again how are they going to add arms... preferably controllable ones?

If we're going to reward a thirtysomething veteran with a big contract for his stats with other teams, I'd rather it be for an outfielder than a catcher. Get him!

He's an interesting fit. If he signs for up to 3 years, then I'd be up for that (that means Davis is either a platoon player or you move him).

Didi's not going to sign to play 3B.

Someone will pay him to play SS.

Disco Ball Plan for 2021

1. Assume that the sale goes through and the FO and some of the coaching staff are reorganized
2. Trade Robinson Cano and $60M just about anywhere for a trio of organizational arms, including at least one AAAA type. For $12M and a few minor league pitchers, some team will take a flier on Robbie. His 2020 campaign restored a bit of his value, and if the DH stays in the NL, there are a few more landing spots for him. This breaks up the logjam and allows Jeff McNeil to go back to second and Brandon Nimmo to take over in left. These are the natural positions for both. Use the $12M saved elsewhere.
3. Sign George Springer. 4 years/$105M. Garbage can lid banging aside, Springer’s stats for the truncated 2020 season closely matched his career line. He can still play CF and he is a right-handed bat. Both fill big needs.
4. Extend Seth Lugo and move him back to the bullpen. By letting Seth start those games in 2020, the Mets let the genie out of the bottle. Its going to cost money to reverse that. Lugo is worth it.
5. Sign Trevor Bauer. Whatever length of contract he wants, the Mets should put out. Max out on a $30M AAV. He slides in behind Jake and gives the Mets a pair of aces. No Bauer, no 2021 contention.
6. Sign Mike Minor, 3/35. Good for 25-30 starts and at least 175 innings. I believe Sandy tried to get him before. Forget Marcus Stroman.
7. Trade Amed Rosario to Cleveland for Austin Hedges, Logan Allen, and Yu Chang. Two things here: first, I would not shell out big bucks for JT Realmuto. The ski slope of his career beckons. Get Hedges to pair with Tomas Nido behind the plate. Second, the Indians will probably move on from Francisco Lindor, but the Mets lack the prospect capital to get him. Cleveland will need a big-league SS. Enter Rosario. This gives the Mets’ shortstop position to Andres Gimenez.
8. Declare that the #5 spot in the rotation is “to be decided in Spring Training.” Since they can’t fix the entire roster in one winter, leave this spot open. Hope that eventually Noah Syndergaard can claim it, but meantime let Steven Matz, Robert Gsellman, Allen, etc. come to camp thinking they have a shot. This might also open the door to a veteran looking for a pillow contract. Since about 2014, no veteran would come here knowing the Mets had most of the spots locked down. Thanks to BVW and Jeff Wilpon those days are gone.
9. Resign Erasmo Ramirez. This was a great under the radar signing. Pair him with Chasen Shreve for some middle-innings spots.
10. Extend Scooter. Met for life, ‘nuff said.

This doesn’t fix everything, but IMO it does put the team back on the right direction. I am not crazy about JD Davis at third, and there is still the Pete Alonso/Dom Smith jumble at first. I wouldn’t expect much offense from the catcher spot, but the defense there should make up for it. Also, this assumes that Edwin Diaz won’t regress back to 2019 and that David Peterson and Gimenez are for real.
Some of the re-tooling may need to occur in-season. Teams will fall out of the race, others will want to cut loose on expensive contracts. Cohen’s dough should be leveraged here.

I don't hate this plan Disco. What's the cost? Do we go over for this year?
