Yeah, the "get creative/play guys out of position" thing has gotten old. Remember the handful of games this year with Gimenez and Guillorme up the middle? How nic eit was to see all the plays made, the DPs turned with ease and style? No add to that a real CF who runs down everything AND catches all the ones he should. Maybe a catcher who actually bothers to block pitches and throws out some runners?

The pool of players who are stellar defenders and solid hitters isn’t very deep.

We'll have solid hitters at 1B, DH, 3B, LF, RF. Add JTR and that adds C. If Gimenez can replicate what he showed this year that's ok with his glove. That leaves 2B and CF. I suppose they'll sacrifice some at 2B for offense, using Guillorme as a D late in games. With all that they can afford to sacrifice SOME offense in CF. Not to get the useless Billy Hamilton types Brodie seemed obsessed with but a decent major league bad who can make the plays at the position. Nimmo is no more than an emergency fill in at the position. He should be in LF.

The problem with that around these parts is that the result has been either trying to catch lightening in a bottle (Bettances is the most recent example, but there have been others); or playing guys out of position. Plus they have very little in the farm left to get creative with. I will just keep my fingers crossed for now and hope that the new regime isn't a case of "meet the new boss, same as the old boss."

By creative I mean moving pieces like JDD, Rosario for pitching, then signing arms prudently. And maybe pushing Szapucki up...

There are enough guys out there that could be interesting to fill out the rotation.

If $76m is the MAX for spending, they will likely have less than that.

I could see an Offseason in which this would be the extent:
--One big ticket bat + One bargain fill (Realmuto/JBJr, or Springer/McCann)
--One premium arm (Bauer) or a few lesser but proven arms (morel likely --Minor, Walker, maybe Arrieta on a bounceback, etc...)

Then trades...
--Rosario for Amir Garrett or
--JDD and another minor league piece for Heaney? Is Bundy in play?

They will be moving players in trades, hopefully not the young ones.

As of now, the DH will be AL-only next season, I'm hearing. The union and MLB would have to expand it to both leagues through bargaining.

We SHOULD be claiming Hand...

What is our roster at? 32? 33?

We're about 1/3 of the way down the list.

I'd be surprised if he got there......

Gyorko’s option declined by the Brewers. He’s a decent 3B option.

Even if he did, doesn't sound like the timing is right. Think the claim would have to be in before the deal officially closes for Cohen.
