In their mind more teams being in a playoff race > the playoff teams' fans tuning out because they're already in based on being fifteen games in front of the .500 seven seeds in September, especially since it de-incentivizes tanking to have more teams in.

I do agree that in a long season like baseball having more playoff teams is stupid though, this isn't a 16 or even 82-game season where some randomness is involved in a couple of streaks throughout the season. It makes the regular season a bit more meaningless and the postseason even more random than it already is.

This is what I was getting at. There are other ways to address tanking.

Extra draft pick round for teams finishing .500 or better? That would be one incentive not to tank.

The other things that are a must are expansion and going back to a balanced schedule.

I'm with you 100%. The other sports, 16 teams in the playoffs works fine. It would be a joke in baseball.

I like the wildcard. It can keep it competitive for teams down to the last day and that's kind of fun, and it kind of hurt being a 90 something win team and not making the playoffs, so I like the system now, better than when it was just 2 per league.

Why don't they expand by two teams? 52 more major league jobs for players and huge buy in fees for the owners to split.

That's a plan that will take a few years to make happen, but Manfred seems interested. It's a matter of when, not if.

The extra draft picks idea is interesting. Depends on the value. One way or another, they need to reduce the value in getting the worst record. Reduce the difference in the values between slots (or get rid of the slotting system). I don't hate the idea of making it impossible to get a top 3 pick in consecutive years.

They should also add a salary floor. Force teams to invest at least something every season. All of the owners can afford it, or should sell to someone who can.

Want to keep teams from underspending, tie revenue sharing to spending. Have a minimum internal payroll number then subsidize increased spending through revenue sharing rather than giving the money...

First $50m -$0 revenue
Next $30m - 20% subsidy of spending
Next $30m - 50% subsidy
Next $40m - 75% subsidy.

Duration doesn’t matter when they’re far apart on things. It’s mostly just one side explaining their proposal and then the other side will take it back, look at it, and make their counter at the next meeting.

The agreement on 29.5 years old= auto-free agency feels like a decent deal. They will argue over pre-FA salaries of course, but that helps a LITTLE bit with service time manipulation, the idea that older rookies never can make up their back pay since teams don't invest much in second generation contracts on 30+ yr olds (why Jake originally missed his chance to cash in before going into God Mode), etc.

Can we talk about how ridiculous it was that MLB used different baseballs without disclosing it to the players?

I eye rolled Alonso when he spoke of a conspiracy but wow---

That's a bad look for MLB.

That's a JOKE that they may have decided some games warranted high scoring games and others didn't.

Law suit worthy JOKE.

NBA/NFL/NHL never decides to change the rules/ball to provide for more excitement/ratings on certain games.

That's ridiculous.
