I'm just curious what the rationale behind not having this is. There is enough trolling of posters by other posters that this seems like a decent solution so people could just ignore others they did not like and wouldn't have to comment on every comment someone they don't make likes.

The reason there is no ignore feature is because NYFS is designed so that you won't need it. We want to encourage community rather than encouraging folks to "ignore" each other.

Not the message we're trying to send.

Then I think it should be stated that people should refrain from attacking other posters (by saying their comments are worthless, out of place, etc.) and they should notify the mods if they feel something is out of place...not try and police things themselves. It just creates clutter and makes the community much less a community than any offending post itself.

All of those things are stated all the time.

I think the message is clear...

Things can still be within the rules and not involve personal attacks, but be incredibly irritating just the same. One can avoid opening threads started by certain posters, but its not as easy to completely avoid reading posts within a given thread.

These are all true statements.

But NYFS is just not the community where an Ignore feature will be implemented.

Everybody on these boards gets irritated with someone or a group of someones at times. But opting to press a button and never hearing from them again isn't the answer... at least not here. Just like the real world, it's up to you to decide how you want to interact with -- and respond to -- these people. You can make an effort to see their point of view, not care about their point of view but try and be civil, attempt to meet irritation head on with irritation, etc, etc.

Or, if none of these options work for you, you can go with georgenyc's advice: "Just stop responding to those people."

And I'm kind of glad about that.

a2d and the 'box have answered this eloquently, but I just wanted to add my two cents on this. The mods/admins work hard every day to eliminate that which is truly 'offensive'. You always have the right to ignore/not read or respond stuff you don't want to read.

But, we choose unity over division. :)

We're not going to add tools so you can ignore other users. That's kind of the polar opposite of what we're trying to accompolish here.
