Is it possible to mark a conversation, say an IGT, and have the page refresh with a new post?

weird, but interesting idea. I think the issue with that would be that it would be super server intensive when there are hundreds of people online and lots of people posting, like in an IGT.

Ok, I'm totallty ignorant about all this so bear with me but it would seem to me that if a page automatically refreshed then you would actually have less people refreshing because they would know to wait for a cue, as it is I will hit refresh over and over again when I am in a discussion and awaiting a response. I dunno, maybe instead a pop up window like a pm has arrived?

The problem is that the advertisers/ad brokers frown upon having automated scripts running that auto-refresh pages, because they pay out on a "ads viewed" basis. So, I'd have to find a way to do it without artificially refreshing the pages.
you can always choose to be notified by email when a topic you're interested in has been added to.

They do this on mets.com, one of the few features on that board worth mentioning in a positive light. Once you read through a thread, say, 22 posts, it'll mark those as read. And you come back in a few hours, it'll say 38 of 60 new posts, you click it and start at post #23 instead of at post #1.
Another semi-good idea would be to have a way to have people reply to you. Like if I make a point and jv3 wants to reply, he can say "replying to tejdog1" in a field somewhere to let me know somehow. That's also a feature on mets.com.
