I've been a proponent of one thread per topic for awhile, simply put news updates under an existing thread and keep that topic alive as was done with Steven Register. That helps a bunch. At one point Delgado was being discussed in 3 different threads. Being ST and a busy news time sometimes news/posts drive viable threads to the 2nd page.

I don't think we have to have one news thread, because then we do run into the problem that it will get way to full of new-news...and people will have to wade through an 8 page thread in order to find something new.

I do think, though, that there could/should be ONE thread per player each day. If Metro starts a "Pedro's Car Is Pimped Out" thread, maybe we could just make sure that all Pedro news goes in THAT thread for the day.

I don't know, I think it could work.

I don't think you can set boundries or rules. It's really a judgement call.

I mean who here cares that Fred Wilpon was a GANGSTER?

Anyway to put a sidebar that could be used to announce news that can be added to by users? That way people can see a a headline with a link to the website. Then if a discussion is needed a topic to the board could be added

Right now on the Mets Forum, there are 10 open threads on the topic of the Mets closer situation...and that's just on the first page. Can people please refrain from starting a whole new thread eery time there is a new article about K-Rod, Fuentes, Jenks, or whomever? It really clutters up the forum and, more importantly, dilutes the individual conversations.

Thanks.

Too many new threads in Mets forum.

Am I the only one that thinks this?

Haha.

Dude, I started a thread on this the other day. It's right below this one.

I don't think the problem is too many new threads...

I think the problem is when there is an article that relates to an existing topic, and someone nontheless starts a new thread. And you can have different topics relating to the same player. So you don't need to have 1 thread for all things Reyes. But if there's a thread on reyes' awesome handshakes, then it disrupts the flow of discussion to take an article on the subject and start a new thread.

offseasons are tough because there's a lot of news flying around. The one NYFS problem with long threads is that it's difficult to jump within a thread. I wonder if there's a way that you could bookmark the last page someone looks at. We already note if there's a new post since the last time I looked at a thread, why not a link to that last page. They someone can pickup where they left off.

That might ease some of the problems.

What I really cannot stand is when there are too few threads. If I do not log on for sometimes just a day a thread goes from 3 pages to 35.

The same people are making the same comments about the same things in EVERY new thread.

It's very difficult to follow a conversation when you can't remember which thread about Derek Lowe you were following in the first place.

And really, it's one poster who fires up a new thread every time he finds a new article in a newspaper. But really, every article is about either the starting pitching, the closers, the rest of the bullpen, or Louis Castillo.

Is there any way we can make this site--and the threads--a little easier to follow?

I've added a merge topics tool so mods can merge topics with similar themes into one topic.

For example, I merged these two 'Too Many Threads" thread. 8)
