I saw this over at Sons of Sam Horn, and I think that it could be something for us at NYFS to do. The basic idea of Adopt a Prospect is this. A person "Adopts" a prospect, and in the thread specifically for that player, the person updates the happenings of that player, and provides a scouting report, and other basic information. (I also figure that with people posting scouting reports, maybe they could also be posted in the players page on the main site ? )

Here is the Adopt a Prospect forum over at SOSH
http://sonsofsamhorn.net/index.php?showforum=10

here is the topic with rules
http://sonsofsamhorn.net/index.php?showtopic=3365

Here is an example of an Adopt a Prospect Thread

By the way, if we do this, I call Jacob Ruckle.

I think this is a great idea, and even if it doesn't catch on like wildfire here, surely individual posters can go out of their way to update everyone of a player's status.

For example, you could do a monthly (weekly?) Jacob Ruckle thread. One of the things that NYFS prides itself on is the minor details -- pun intended. I'd love something like that.

Thanks a lot ChinaBox. I thought that this could be a great way to get the NYFS communuity involved, and it could be something of use for all of us ( info about different prospects, and updates ). I think the PLW's will have a lot of fun with this.

China, I have a question. I know that it is against the rules allitle bit, but would it be ok if I reposted this in the Mets and Minor Leagues forum, just so that it could get more views?

Also, here is a , would be, first post in the Ruckle Thread, Opinions?

Background Information
Full Name: Jacob M. Ruckle
Born: 05/27/1986
Birthplace: Mohave Valley, AZ
High School: Mohave High School, Arizona
College: Chandler Gilbert CC ( 1 year )
Height: 6' 1"
Weight: 180
Bats: R
Throws: R
Drafted: 41st round, 2004
How Acquired: 1214th overall pick in the 2004 draft

ETA: 2010-2011

Scouting report:
The name of Jake Ruckle's game is deception. While Ruckle may not be overwhelming in the "stuff" category, he excels
in fooling hitters with his over the top, herky-jerky motion. His delivery is reminiscent of the delivery of Dontrelle Willis,
while maybe being even more unique. Known to Cyclones fans as the "Ruckle Shuffle", Ruckle motion involves a big leg kick,
over extended arms, and at one point, even having his left hand pointing to the sky while his right hand is almost touching
the mound! Ruckle is a groundball pitcher ( he keeps the ball down ), who will not give up many home runs, and he also maintains
a respectable K/BB ratio. Jacob Ruckle is a three pitch pitcher, with those pitches being:
Fastball
Change up
Sinker

Ruckle's best pitch, and his K pitch is his change up. Ruckle specializes in location, and changing speeds. Ruckle is not an
overpowering pitcher, Fellow teammate Jon Schemmel commented on Ruckle, saying:
"He’s what you don’t see in the minor leagues anymore. He doesn’t throw 95,
he doesn’t throw 90 for that matter, but he knows how to pitch"

Strengths:
Deception
Control
Changing Speeds

weaknesses:
Velocity
Lack of off speed, breaking pitch

2006 Stats

Accomplishments:
2005 - Gulf Coast League All-Star SP
1 Hitter against the Staten Island Yankees on July 6, 2006, and was 1 out away from the complete game

Final Outlook:
Jacob Ruckle is one of the Mets prospects that excites me. While he is not even a blip on the Mets radar yet, I feel that
with time, Jacob Ruckle will be surprising a lot of people. I think that he will be starting the 2007 season at Single A
St. Lucie, but has a very good chance at advancing from there.

Maybe we could Blurb the player facts and add the blurbs to the specific players exisiting profile page? Hmmm.

I smell a tool that needs to be made for this. Or maybe I can modify the NYFS Historian to be adopted player specific?

Like adopt-a-highway, you get a sign, but you have to pick up the litter 3 or 4 times a year?

I realy like the idea of the player info on the player pages, that could make NYFS an even greater tool for Mets fans

Concerning the Adopt a highway, its a very similar idea, you pick a player that is "yours", but you have to update the players thread.

This is exactly the kind of thing that makes this community so kick-ass. Where are the other 'mets1989's of the world! :) This is great. I agree with Ed about the coolness of a tool for this sort of thing...

There was another mets1989 but this one killed that one. Survival of the fittest I guess.
