I posted a thread in the suggestions forum, relating to something that I saw on Sons of Sam Horn. The Idea received good feedback in my thread, so I am also posting i here to spread the idea, and to maybe get some signups.

The idea is that we "adopt" a prospect, and later on create a thread on the prospect. In the first post, you give some info on the player ( I will go into this later ). The idea is that you update the Mets community on the happenings of that player, including performance summaries, game summaries, accomplishments, etc.

I think that this is a great project to get people involved in NYFS ( Especially the PLW's ), and the info could be used by NYFS to make the player pages even better, and make this place an even greater tool for Mets fans!

Back to the first post of the player thread, some general things to try to include
1. Picture(s) of the player
2. General Background information, here is a template to help

Full Name:
Born:
Birthplace:
High School:
College:
Position
Height:
Weight:
Bats:
Throws:
Drafted:
How Acquired:
ETA:

3. If possible, try to get as much info about the player, to make a scouting report.
Some suggested categories to consider
For a position player:
Contact
Power
Speed
Fielding
Range
Arm strength/accuracy
Plate Discipline

For a Pitcher:
Control
Velocity
Movement/trajectory
What pitches the Pitcher Throws
Deceptiveness

4. If possible, try to get some media. Has there been a big article on your prospect? Any videos online? Try to get as much info as you can

5. Stats. Post the career stats of your prospect in your first post.

6. Final Outlook: Very Simply, what do you see for the prospect in the future

7 The Rules of Adopt a Prospect
Some of these rules are a bit Strict IMO, but here is a basic guideline
http://sonsofsamhorn.net/index.php?showtopic=3365

So would anyone be interested in this project? If so, what prospect would you like to do? If there is enough support for this, I will try to convince a Mod or Admin to maybe make a forum or subforum just for Adopt a Prospect, just like SOSH has.

By the way, I called Jacob Ruckle already. If anyone is interested in seeing what my first post looks like, I will post it here. Also, prospects are first come, first serve.

List:
Mets1989-Jacob Ruckle
execwrite- Daniel Murphy
K4osten- Mike Carp

By the way, just for an idea on how it looks, here is my, would be, jacob Ruckle first post

Image

Background Information
Full Name: Jacob M. Ruckle
Born: 05/27/1986
Birthplace: Mohave Valley, AZ
High School: Mohave High School, Arizona
College: Chandler Gilbert CC ( 1 year )
Height: 6' 1"
Weight: 180
Bats: R
Throws: R
Drafted: 41st round, 2004
How Acquired: 1214th overall pick in the 2004 draft

ETA: 2010-2011

Scouting report:
The name of Jake Ruckle's game is deception. While Ruckle may not be overwhelming in the "stuff" category, he excels
in fooling hitters with his over the top, herky-jerky motion. His delivery is reminiscent of the delivery of Dontrelle Willis,
while maybe being even more unique. Known to Cyclones fans as the "Ruckle Shuffle", Ruckle motion involves a big leg kick,
over extended arms, and at one point, even having his left hand pointing to the sky while his right hand is almost touching
the mound! Ruckle is a groundball pitcher ( he keeps the ball down ), who will not give up many home runs, and he also maintains
a respectable K/BB ratio. Jacob Ruckle is a three pitch pitcher, with those pitches being:
Fastball
Change up
Sinker

Ruckle's best pitch, and his K pitch is his change up. Ruckle specializes in location, and changing speeds. Ruckle is not an
overpowering pitcher, Fellow teammate Jon Schemmel commented on Ruckle, saying:
"He’s what you don’t see in the minor leagues anymore. He doesn’t throw 95,
he doesn’t throw 90 for that matter, but he knows how to pitch"

Strengths:
Deception
Control
Changing Speeds

weaknesses:
Velocity
Lack of off speed, breaking pitch

2006 Stats

Accomplishments:
2005 - Gulf Coast League All-Star SP
1 Hitter against the Staten Island Yankees on July 6, 2006, and was 1 out away from the complete game

Final Outlook:
Jacob Ruckle is one of the Mets prospects that excites me. While he is not even a blip on the Mets radar yet, I feel that
with time, Jacob Ruckle will be surprising a lot of people. I think that he will be starting the 2007 season at Single A
St. Lucie, but has a very good chance at advancing from there.

I can't afford to get that close to my prospects. I just got over parting with Jason Phillips and I am going through Keppinger withdrawal ;)

I'll take Mike Carp. Even though he's not really a prospect, more like a super hero

THe prospects have to be younger than 85.

I'll have to fight with someone for "Freakin'", but I can't for the life remember who was the other Parnell weenie.
