I'll take Fernando Martinez ... i know he's a good one, so if someone else wants him I can switch.

The tool for this is the Blurbing tool. The SOSH format is redundant because we already have player profiles for every player with a lot of the basic information you provided already in place (stats, bio, etc.) just click on Jacob Ruckle and it takes you to all that.

If you click:

- Post An NYFSBlurb

anywhere on the main site, it will let you add a story that will be attached to the players profile. e.g., click Lastings Milledge and you'll see my latest blurb "priming the pump"

you can't just go grab photos off the net to use, photographers have copyright rights. we have photos of many of the players, photographers who take photos of specific players are welcome to donate them when we don't have one.

But you don't need a list or an official adoption paper...just hit "Add A Blurb" and add to that players record whenever you want.

If anyone wants to do more than that or take more responsibility, please shoot me or Zach a PM about getting Historian Status to help maintain the data on each player.

But if you just want to "adopt" a kid and make his record updated, just add blurbs to his profile using that tool. 8)

mets1989, see if you can post the Ruckle piece, sans the stats as a Blurb, and then I'll reformat the profile pages a little to make the user blurbs more prominent in the player data.

Also, as opposed to having a list/assignments of players to each minor leaguer - which means one person has a "responsibility" to keep on a specific kid no matter what and people feel less incliuned to write about a kid is he's already "taken" - what if I made each blurb you do on a player count as a point, and each time that blurb is read count as a point, then the person with the most points was listed on the profile page as the "primary editor" or something? maybe the primary editor field could default to "NYFS Staff" until someone has put 100 points into it, so they're "qualified". That would also keep someone from saying "I got Carlos Gomez" and then not putting in the time to keep an important record updated.

That way, everyone can work on all the players, but if any one person puts in the time and effort on a specific player, they'll be noted as the primary editor on the players page.

Thoughts?

Ed that sounds perfect. I know I probably wont be writing any blurbs, but I know plenty of posters will. Thats why this site is awesome.

And I cant wait to read all of nyjohnyboy's Gomez blurbs.

Ed, I love your idea! it allows everyone not to be so locked in, and gives it a little more freedom. It also allows people to get players when they are devoted to updating, not just having anyone take any player.

I posted the blurb like you said

This blurb thing is really cool :D

If anyone could give me some feedback on my report, I would really appreciate it.
