Can a mod or Ed tell me why this hasn't been implemented yet?

I mean, you're trying to create a community here right? This would be the perfect thing to have so that we can all sell the tickets we cant use to the people we know here and know they will go to good use. Friends helping friends. No profit. Face value only. I see no harm in it. Its perfectly legal. Everyone benefits. There are plenty of people with season tickets who just cant go to all the games, and rather than have to put them up on ebay or something, it would be so much easier to just post them here and find a trusted buyer.

Am I missing something negative about this? Please just explain the reasoning either way. I just think its such a fantastic idea.

I think it would be a good idea too. I'd using it for selling and for buying.

I don't speak for NYFS policy, but my personal opinion on tickets is this:

I have no problem whatsoever with NYFS participants selling tickets at face to other people who use NYFS. The only issue I see is people just utilizing NYFS for its extensive number of eyeballs without participating in the community.

Any time I get a request of an NYFS member to sell tickets at face, I always support it. Every time I see that a new user made an account two minutes ago and posts a 'tickets for sale' thread, I delete it.

That's just me, though!

Hmm... if only there was some way to moderate the tickets forum. 8)

I know what youre saying, but at the same time, just because people dont register and post on the boards doesnt mean they dont use the site. So if you open up this new avenue of collaboration, and some lurkers who have season tickets decide to register and offer their tickets for face value, whats the harm? If they dont sell, they dont sell, but if a fellow member of the nyfs community wants the tickets, then a valuable service has been provided courtesy of nyfs. Both fans are happy, and nyfs gets some new registered users out of it.

Anyone selling over face is banned. If anyone is dishonest in any way, they are reported, and banned. It wouldnt be that hard to control. The community would police itself.

We all love the website, but this would be a way to extend the fan connection created here to real life. I know you're not a local fan, but for a lot of us, going to the games and dealing with the hassle of tickets is the largest part of our fandom. I make sure to get to 15-20 games a year, some prepurchased in a package of some sort, but many times its a spur of the moment decision, and my choices are going to the mets website or shea itself and getting only the crappy remaining seats, or going to ebay or stubhub and paying triple the price. And, frankly, both those options suck. You guys have the power to give us a better option. Real fans, good tickets, face value, in an honest friendly fashion. I cant help but see it as a blantently obvious next step in the ongoing development of this community that you guys pride yourself on, and that we all love.

Worst case scenario is we try it, and it fails, and you shut it down. You guys HAVE to at least see the potential. I think I can safely say that I'm speaking for the majority of your community.

The 'harm' is to our ticket broker advertisers, who pay for space on the site. There are a ton of spammers and general jerkfaces who try to abuse the popularity of NYFS on a daily basis. Whether it's people registering just to push links to their Mets website or trying to sell stuff to our audience. We love when people want to participate in NYFS, not "use" it when it helps them financially. But above all, we have an obligation to our advertisers who support NYFS financially.

The forum idea has great potential, but it would lead to a loss of revenue as the advertisers would not be thrilled :)

And this also speaks to a point Ed makes almost every day: Most people here assume that most people here support NYFS financially or by writing features and stuff. But, we rely on advertisers or people shooting a few bucks to pay for the server and that kind of thing. I'm not suggesting that you're not doing your part, or that any one person in particular is not, just that it's a huge operation being supported by a small number of people.

The community aspect of the idea is no doubt great, but it's not in our best interest to alienate our advertisers. So, while it would be easy to police, I'm not sure about the cost-benefit analysis.

But again, this is me speaking, not The NYFS Hammer.

what if an NYFS member wanted to sell a face value ticket, and the purchaser gets a ticket and a date with an NYFS user.

hypothetically. And the seller would probably need to see pics first.
