So...

I have Cole Hamels and really don't enjoy having a Phillie pitcher on my fantasy team. No mater what the outcome, it's always bittersweet. So I have been trying to trade him ever since drafting him. That said, I refuse to give him up for pennies on the dollar and I think he'll finish the year in the Top 7 in fantasy pitchers, and possibly even better.

I recently got a Phillie fan to offer me Felix Hernandez for Hamels. I am pretty sure I am going to accept this offer, even though Hernandez is getting lit up by the Yanks today and his track record is only ok. He's currently fielding career numbers in era and whip and I'd assume on path for his best W-L record. Given his youth and potential I think it's fair to not go by his track record, this could be his breakthrough season. But I still worry that he may even out a little throughout the season. Hamels has proven to me to be the better of the two pitchers so far.

Ultimately, I trust Hamels over Hernandez but he's a Philly and it makes rooting for him on my team to be almost impossible. So I think i will do this deal, but just double checking what others think. Should I or shouldn't I?

I wouldn't do it, I think you can get a bit more for Hamels. I forget where he is on my lists, since I don't have them on me, but I think he was the 6th or 7th pitcher, while Hernandez was down around 11 or 12. It's not a big difference, but you're still not getting full value in return.

The trade has been completed.

It ended up being Cole Hamels and Vernon Wells for Felix Hernandez and Yunel Escobar.

I agree that Hamels is the better of the 2 pitchers, but ultimately I just needed to dump him because it was no fun having a Philly pitcher. You want your pitchers to have great outings and get the win, and it just felt like I was rooting against the Mets. Every Hamels was bittersweet, I could never fully enjoy it.

So while I think Hamels is better than Hernandez, I think the 2 are close enough for me to have gone ahead with it. The kicker for me was including Escobar into the deal. With Tulo going down until the all star break and having never selected a backup/second 2B, I needed to bring in some depth at those spots. Now I have that.

Aside from being A Vernon Wells fan, he wasn't offering my team anything special. He was easy enough to part with.

Ok, now I think you got the better end of this deal. Wells has some upside, but he hasn't shown it the last couple years, and Escobar has a pretty high ceiling.
