There are a bunch of different leagues to choose from. Examples: All-time greats, deadball era (LOVE the names of players in this era), mid-century, 1970-present, leagues where you pick from four years of your favorite team (but they only allow 3 years of Yankee teams, lol). Most leagues are set up for you to draft right away, getting a random set of players to pick from at each position. Supposed to be set up to be fair. Watch out for the supplemental draft that happens on day 3. Tons of good players will still be free agents.
I have done okay in some leagues, won one, really awful in others. I probably could do more research and upkeep on my teams, but it's still a lot of fun just setting lineups and letting the computer sim the games.
