Rules:

- You must keep either 5 or 6 players, one from each colored band unless you only keep 5. However, you MUST keep a player from the 1-3 band and from the 6+ band, ie even if you only keep 5 you must keep 1 from the yellow band and 1 fron the bolded band.

- You lose the corresponding draft pick (listed in parens) for each player you keep

- If someone keeps two players with the same EQ round, then they lose a pick equal to that EQ round (of course) and the next pick.

- You have the option of not keeping one player from any one of the four 5-round bands (ie the orange, green, grey, and blue bands) and replacing that player with someone from the supplemental draft. You will choose from players from that equivalent band from other teams that were not kept. To use an example, from my team I only have three players in the 9-13 (green) band. If I didn't like any of them, I could choose to not keep a player from that band. Then in the supplemental draft I would choose from the pool of players who were all in another teams' 9-13 band but who were not kept by any other team.

(Basically: Pick one guy from each colored band. Also, there is the option of selecting a guy who is bloded, even if someone from his band has already been selected. One player from the first band and from the bolded band must be selected. You don't have to select someome from the other bands, and if you don't, you get to pick from unselected players from other teams in that band.)

Alex Rodriguez - 3B (1)
Jose Reyes - SS (2)
Lance Berkman - 1B, OF (3)
T. Saito - RP (3)

Bronson Arroyo - SP (4)
Dontrelle Willis - SP (4)
Ben Sheets - SP (5)
Ryan Weeks - 2B (7)

Ryan Zimmerman - 3B (9)
Mike Cameron - OF (10)
Ray Durham - 2B (11)
Jim Thome - DH (12)

J.D. Drew - OF (14)
Scott Shields - RP (15)
Anabel Sanchez - SP (15)

Jesse Barfield - 2B (20)
Jared Wright - SP (23)
Boof Bonser - SP (23)
Ramon Ortiz - SP (23)
Jo. Nelson - RP (23)
Mike Piazza - C (23)
S. Torres - RP (23)
Wade Miller - SP (23)
Mike Stanton - RP (23)

NOTE: This is a keeper league. Same rules will follow year-to-year. Since I won the league last year (and made a pretty penny), I have the last pick in the snake draft. In other words, my odd/even round picks are essentially the same slot.

Here's my thought:

Gotta keep:
Zimmerman (9)
Barfield (20)

Those guys are bolded and great deals. Because of Zimmerman, I'd keep Reyes (2) over A-Rod. Second basemen are truly awful outside of Utley, and you aren't going to get much production out of any of them, and Weeks value has dived severely.

Thanks to Barfield, I'd keep Sheets (5). That's four, and I think a good four. It covers two middle infield positions, one starting pitcher and third base. So the best available options left are:

Anibel Sanchez (15)
Mike Piazza (23)

I would take a look at the other team's grey guys. There might be a situation in which you are best served going into the supplemental draft for a grey band guy. But my general feel is that round 15 is fair for Sanchez, and round 23 is a good deal for your catcher.

So what to do? Are both players are worth the 6th slot? Let's look at the PECOTA!

Piazza: 48R - 17HR - 67RBI - 0 SB - 0.264
estimated value: $-3.18

Sanchez: 10W - 0SV - 143K - 4.41ERA - 1.39WHIP
estimated value: $2.92

First thing I'd do is check to see if anyone else better is available in grey, so my certain keepers are:

Reyes (2)
Sheets (5)
Zimmerman (9)
Barfield (20)
Piazza (23)

And if nobody is better in the grey band, then add in:
Sanchez (15)

Who on earth came up with that system? Does the commish work for the IRS?

Reyes in round two is obvious, since he's a top 5 overall guy. I'd keep Weeks, since 2B is really shallow this year. Thome is a gamble, but definitely worth the risk for a 12th rnd pick. If he wasn't a DH, he'd be a top 4-5 round pick. Other than that, Piazza and Nelson? A 25 HR catcher that won't actually catch and a potential closer in the 23rd round? Sweet. Sheets is tempting. I wouldn't bother with Willis, his WHIP and wins won't help much for such an early pick.

Jesse Barfield is retired. I think you mean his kid Josh. 8)

I don't quite get the rules, but my 5 are:

Reyes
Willis
Thome
Drew
Bonser

Reyes gives you hits and SB
Drew gives you AVG and OBP
Thome gives you HR and RBI

Willis' stats show he has a great year after an average one. Last year he was ok, which makes me think he might be worth the 4th round pick.

Bonser is a big sleeper in my book and the best of a bad lot in that color band. He was good in his postseason start and may be able to carry over that confidence.

I think Piazza's #s will dip this year as he gets used to AL pitching and those big parks.

I like Barfield but I think you can find a better 2B later in the draft. Barfield doesn't give you anything that Reyes doesn't already.

;)

I just copied and pasted the list written by our commish.

I also apparently have rights to "Ryan Weeks"
