I'm needing some help/advice.

I'm commish of a fantasy baseball league that has been active for about the last 6 years now. Some of the members have brought up some very interesting ideas on how to enhance the league and make things more interesting.

One idea was to set a limit on how long keepers can be kept. Many in the league have really took a liking to this idea but I'm not sure how to implement the rule.

We've thought of making it a "three year contract" per keeper and after the third year the player is entered back into the draft pool. The problem we are having is deciding if the three year contract should be three years per team, meaning if a player is traded during year one, two, or three of the contract, the team that traded for the player will begin a new three year deal with the player. The other idea would be to enforce a stern three year contract where no matter how many teams a player has played with during the three year period via trade, after year three, the team loses his rights and he is entered back into the draft pool.

I'm not sure which would be a better plan to implement. I can see problems arising under each scenario.

Any thoughts/advice/suggestions/help is much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

 I saw this thread and totally forgot to post in it.

Franchising keepers sounds like a great idea. As I posted in the other thread, it's not as much fun as soon as one person drafts Pujols and then has him for the next 10 years.

If you're the commish, the only way I know how to implement this is if you keep a Word doc, Excel sheet or something on your computer where you update it after each year (and then send it out at the end of the year so that the people in the league are aware of who's where).

A suggestion that one of my friends had is something like the NBA's sign-and-trade. Instead of losing that franchise guy after the 3rd year, you can keep him for 2 years and then in his third year of eligibility, you trade him to another team for one of their keepers (or a similar value package). You then have that keeper for 2 years and can move him in his third year (or opt to let him go via the draft).

Obviously all trades would have to even and pass both league and commish approval. It's a pretty nifty thought. I don't know if I'll be using it or not yet.
