I hate to make comparisons, but that kid has the closest swing I've seen to Ken Griffey Jr.

Not in terms of Griffey's prowess as an overall player but just the swing.

I don't touch a high school kid already committed to Stanford.

Especially with the new shortened deadline.

well a team could do that, especially the Mets, if they already have worked out the financial agreement prior to the draft. Certainly would be smart on their part if they like him so much to do it that way and get him signed.

The kid has to have some realistic expectations.

If you offer $1M and the kid wants $2M, there's a basis for negotiation.

If you offer $1M and the kid wants $5M and a Major League contract, there isn't.

well obviously, but I don't think the Mets would be involved if he wanted 5 million and a ml deal.

Money should not be an object for the Mets regarding any player in any draft. If there is a kid still on the board who is Round 1 talent and wasn't chosen because of monetary demands, you take him if you're Fred Wilpon. Period.

Money should always be an object. That's how discipline and accountability exist in the front office. Even if you have lots you can't waste money foolishly.

I think the Mets were wrong about Beato but I respect their decision.

well i don't think Dog was talking about wasting money, more like just spending more then we have in the past drafts or occasionally spending more when a player(s) fall because of monetary issues with other teams. We have more money to spend then other teams, we should use it to our advantage, and still be fiscally responsible.
