• Speaking of going over slot, the Angels, Mets, and Tigers have all sent word to agents that they're willing to exceed their slot figures for some picks after the first round. -Keith Law

good last year we didn't and lost Beato because of it. We should never not spend the money because of worries that the commish won't like it if we feel the player is worth it.

We drafted Pedro Beato two years ago.

Baltimore took him last year.

Matt Harvey will end up the best college pitcher from the 2010 draft.

Hopefully we avoid the cheap college seniors and have the nice cliche 'Best Player Available' Draft...

He re-entered the draft last year after we didn't sign him as a draft and follow signing.

I agree.

But realistically, the organization will want to draft some organization players also, as they have to fill the rosters and provide protection for the prospects.

That's what NDFAs and players dropped by other organizations are for.

Yes, but there is still NO WAY they would draft HS/JC players with every pick, you know that.

What can the commissioner do if a team overspends? He has no way of punishing teams, right?

Nothing.

But he's trying to prevent a Kris Benson like effect on draftees.

I would like to see us draft more high schoolers this year. Except for joe smith, Drafting college players who were supposed to impact the team very soon havent really panned out yet.

Tom (Boston): Hey Keith, who are the Mets looking at with #42? With five picks in the top 100, are they in good shape to come away with a lot of talent? SportsNation Keith Law: (4:09 PM ET ) Mets and Red Sox are both really waiting to see if a first-round talent falls on signability.
