Reds sign Leake and Boxberger.

Quote:
The Reds have signed their top two picks in the draft, Arizona State righthander Mike Leake (first round) for $2.27 million and Southern California righthander Brad Boxberger (supplemental first) for $857,000.

Mariners sign their first round pick:

Quote:
The Mariners have signed No. 27 overall pick Nick Franklin for $1.28 million. He’s the 17th of the 32 first-rounders to sign and the fifth to get more than MLB’s recommendation for his slot. The commissioner’s office’s guideline was $1,161,000.

Dang, practically half the crop not counting sandwich picks remain unsigned with 3 days left. You can bet there could be announcements of signees even when the deadline is over a la Pedro Alvarez last draft.

I am cautiously optimistic over the possibilities of Glenn, Buchanan, and Magnifico. Each are a "May get over-slot bonus". None are under "Looking for bonus" or "Expecting to go to [insert college]" according to BA's draft tracker. That being said they are also not "Expected to get bonus". Hopefully there are updates in the tracker.

(edit: nevermind regarding what i first wrote, i was thinking of all the wrong guys.. for some reason i though buchanan and glenn would be tough to sign.. my bad!)

but in regards to magnifico, for some reason i think if matz ends up signing for a little over $1M (likely) then i dont think magnifico gets signed.. but it would be nice to have both, or all 3 (Buchanan, Matz, Maginifico).

Every kid after him isn't my top pick. You don't blink for the top one, everyone else knows that, they can demand all they want.

He says no, you wish him luck, then you schedule the Juan Urbina press conference where you tell everyone this was like our 1st Round Draft Pick....

I hear what you are saying, I just totally disagree we ever do that with our top pick. If you tell me some later round kid then fine, but our top pick we have to sign.

He is a latter-round pick.

He basically got picked a round later than Eddie Kunz and Nathan Vineyard.....

They have to spend.

If not here, then on other picks or Internationally...

Absolutely.

Yeah, and if you're using the "He's 19" logic, then I guess the best report a scout could give us is:

"I have no idea. He's a teenager. He may go through 5 arm surgeries between now and his 30th birthday. He may add a pitch. He may lose a pitch. He may put on 30 lbs and add velocity. He may put on 50 lbs and eat his way out of the league. I literally have no idea what he is going to be."

But thats not what these guys are paid to do, nor what we are looking for them to do, right?

Awesome.

Magnifico would be a bonus but Matz is the one they needed.
