I'm still curious to hear what the Mets offered, if they actually offered anything.

But it doesn't look like this is one that's going to come back and bite us.

Right ..

But you basically said you would've rather signed the 31st and 42nd round picks than the 2nd round and 5th round .. sounds pretty silly, no?

I think they're better prospects then Magnifico, and are on par with Matz.

I didn't think he was worth anything CLOSE to what he wanted. I said the same on Matz, too, fwiw.

I wanted Haniger/Gunhouse over the M&M boys.

A projectable left-handed pitcher with good stuff and you didn't want him???
huh? Explain.

I wanted Matz, but I didn't think he was worth what he ultimately got. I had him more in the 350-500k range, tops 600k. You can go check his draft thread. I'm not pissed we signed him, I'm just sayin, he got more then what I believe he was worth.

But if the Mets passed on signing him based on your thought, you would be complaining that the Mets don't go overslot or go far enough to sign talent.

Also keep in mind that at the 11th hour there were rumors the Mets and Matz weren't going to be able to reach an agreement with Matz making some comments that he would just as soon embrace heading for college.

In fact there was talk earlier this year criticizing the Mets for not even being willing to offer a round number and rather save the few thousand (5k?)bucks or so.

Yeah, and if you're using the "He's 19" logic, then I guess the best report a scout could give us is:

"I have no idea. He's a teenager. He may go through 5 arm surgeries between now and his 30th birthday. He may add a pitch. He may lose a pitch. He may put on 30 lbs and add velocity. He may put on 50 lbs and eat his way out of the league. I literally have no idea what he is going to be."

But thats not what these guys are paid to do, nor what we are looking for them to do, right?

Matt Harvey will end up the best college pitcher from the 2010 draft.

Matz is a PLW's dream. A projectable left-handed pitcher with a good fastball and decent secondary pitches. If the Mets draft a couple of them starting on Tuesday, I will be very happy.

Joe (Ok)
Any thoughts on Magnifico (real name) who allegedly throws up to 103 for the Sooners?

Klaw (1:37 PM)
I've confirmed 102 in relief. Secondary isn't great, and he's a TJ guy. I think he goes late first/sandwich as one of the first college relievers off the board, although he's starting on Tuesdays now for Oklahoma.

Brewers recalled RHP Damien Magnifico from Triple-A Colorado Springs.

Magnifico, 25, has compiled a 3.18 ERA, 17 saves, and 54/29 K/BB ratio over 56 2/3 innings this season in Triple-A. He'll be making his major league debut when he gets into a game.

Jesus my Matz comments in this thread are utterly cringeworthy.
