From last year
Miami's Ryan Jackson went 3-for-8 with an RBI in the two games against Florida. But I was more impressed with Florida outfielder Matt den Dekker who 2-for-4 with three RBI in the 16-5 win over Miami.
One AL East area scout said the 6-1, 205-pound centerfielder is a gamer and has good range and moves fluidly and possesses a plus arm. He also pitches for the Gators. He has good power to all fields and is a plus runner.
"He's just a little stiff at the plate," the scout said. "It's like he's almost thinking a little too much up there."
Nonetheless, a plus arm in centerfield should make den Dekker an easy second rounder, if not a late compensation round pick.
After his strong sophmore year, he was ranked 12th on the top college players to watch for 2009 by the The College Baseball Blog. He was considered a top 100 prospect heading into the 2009 draft, but a poor junior season led him to fall into late rounds, so he returned to school this year.

I gotta ask, because I asked the old mr. pessimism the same thing (tej, I'm talking to you), who would you have drafted? So far, I'm looking at a frontline starter potential, a solid catcher, a toolsy OF who needs work, and another possible regular in CF who was highly thought of. Keep in mind, we are the Mets, and if you have pipe dreams of HS pitchers out the wazzoo, you will be disappointed from now until eternity.
Hmm
2nd round Gibbs or Cole would of been great choices, passed on both.
Then instead of drafting this horrible outfielders how about drafting Austin Wilson with any of those 2 picks?
The kid has tremendous upside.
If the Mets had drafted Whitson, Gibbs/Cole and Wilson I would be jumping for joy and talking how great this draft was instead is another meh draft for them.

And you'd also be pissed when Cole and Wilson went to college
"I think I'm just a little more relaxed this year," den Dekker said as the Gators (42-15) began preparations for this weekend's NCAA regional at McKethan Stadium. "Maybe last year I was pressing, trying to do a little too much. But I'm just relaxed, having a good time, and I think that's been the biggest difference for me this year."
A huge difference. The 6-foot-1, 210-pounder leads Florida in batting average (a career-high .355), runs (58) and stolen bases (career-high 21). He also hit a career-high 12 home runs and drove in 44 runs. It's a lot like his sophomore season, when he hit .333 with eight home runs and 48 RBI and was named a first-team All-Southeastern Conference selection.
That set him up as one of the top prospects in the SEC last season, but den Dekker admitted he didn't handle the pressure of being draft-eligible. His offensive numbers dipped (.296, five homers 37 RBI), and he struggled with consistency.
"It maybe put a little pressure on me to play a little better, but this year, I've focused on being the type of player I am and not trying to do too much," den Dekker said.
Still, den Dekker was drafted in the 16th round by the Pittsburgh Pirates. Though it was tempting to sign and begin his professional career, den Dekker decided to return to Gainesville. He wasn't happy with his junior season, and he also wanted to continue to be a part of a program that has been steadily rising into the national elite.

LOL. Love the fact that was just glossed over. Also the fact that Gibbs and Forsythe are pretty much neck and neck. But always lean toward the guy the Mets DIDN'T take when in doubt.
