Jesuit's Eveld bound for USF Posted on Monday, March 22, 2010 at 2:24 p.m.
After months of flying mysteriously beneath the recruiting radar, Jesuit quarterback Bobby Eveld finally has landed only a few miles from home.
Eveld confirmed in a text message this afternoon he will join USF as a preferred walk-on. A 6-foot-6 pocket passer who guided the Tigers to the Class 2A playoffs last season, Eveld made unofficial visits to USF, Florida International and Florida Atlantic, among others.
"I'm really glad it's over but it was all worth it," Eveld said in his message.
As a senior, Eveld completed 134 of 244 passes for 1,999 yards, 19 touchdowns and six interceptions. In two seasons, he threw for nearly 3,000 yards and, of course, beat Tampa Catholic twice.

Jesuit senior catcher Bobby Eveld has been selected by the Mets in the 50th and final round of this year's MLB first-year player draft. Eveld, the last bay area high school player selected, was taken with the 1502nd overall pick. Eveld, also the quarterback of the Jesuit football team, planned on attending USF and walking onto the football team there.

If the Mets actually tender an offer, the kid should take it and be a two-sport guy. Sign for 50K, take the money and play college football too.
IMO, the reason he was selected is he lead his team behind the plate to the State Final 4 and handled a staff that had one drafted (Gibson) and another in a few years who will be the #1 overall pick in the draft (Lance McCullers) in 2012, who as a Sophomore this year, actually topped out at 97 on the gun and sits 94-96. FYI, Lance's dad was a former 2nd rounder in 1982 and ML pitcher.
