Like the pick. Shows some solid secondary offerings and has a bit more projectability at 6'3 only 185. Could add another tick to the FB or at the very least maintain it longer.

Another 3 pitch guy who projects pretty well as a SP. This system really needed to add a couple of guys like these last two picks; we were really lacking a bit in guys who really might project as #3/#4 SP. I like a guy who has 3 pitches, has some pitchability, maybe still has a bit of projection as well. Could turn into something.

seems like some projectability there with him, which is good considering he's a college pitcher. I like the pick and with some development could be a very good pick perhaps.

Seems like guys had him ranked closer to our 2nd round pick, and Mazzoni closer to our 3rd round pick.
I think you take who you like when you want to. Maybe Mazzoni would have lasted longer but if you really like a player and it's not a ridiculous overdraft... why not take them a round "early"?

In the Sickles community mock, they took Verret at 58 (Padres) and Mazzoni at 116 in round 3 (Giants):

Actually, Mazzoni is similar to Noe Ramirez, who went one pick earlier in that mock.
Obviously, MLB teams may have different ideas of what these guys are worth. They wouldn't have taken Mazzoni first unless they liked him best.
Well that's what I mean. These rankings mean very little. You can't say "well he's ranked as a 3rd rounder so lets wait" if you like a player you take him.

Its supposed to be a Day 2 recap, but its basically a love-fest for Verrett.
Mayo says the Mets benefit from early struggles this season, as going in he was a likely top 50 guy and had he had a good junior year, he was a day 1 pick. Says good fastball, really good changeup, good competitor on the mound.
