"For the season, Reed is batting .608, with 16 home runs and 48 RBI's. On the mound the lefty is 8-0, with a 1.17 ERA. Reed has 96 strikeouts in just 60 innings pitched. He has tossed seven complete games, five shutouts and one no-hitter this season."
Reed and Peters were both at the peak of their considerable powers. Reed struck out 12, walked none and allowed just three hits. Reed was economical in his pitch count and struck out the side in his final inning of work.
Reed was drafted in the 25th round by the New York Mets as a pitcher, but he’s signed to play for the University of Kentucky. Reed expects to receive a contract offer from the Mets in the next couple weeks.
“At UK, they recruited me as a two-way guy. With the Mets, I really just got drafted as a pitcher,” Reed said. “They’re going to watch my next start [for Wayne Newton Post 346]. After that, they’re going to make their offer.”
The star of the game and the series was 2011 Indiana Mr. baseball, Terre Haute's A.J. Reed who was drafted in the 25th round of the Major League Baseball draft by the New York Mets. Reed dominated both at the plate and on the mound. In Sunday's finale, Reed just missed out on his second homer of the series going 1-for-4 with an RBI triple. Reed also had five strikeouts in the game. Reed finished the series going 6-12 with 6 RBI and a homerun.
