I dunno. The source was the official Cape league website.

Anyway, I think we're splitting hairs a bit here in that while Cowpay got the hype as the plus speed guy in this class, this guy certainly appears to be quite a burner too.

So the move from C to CF doesn't look as deflating anymore, I don't think. I was guilty of applying the catcher stereotype a bit and picturing something of a plodding OFer who becomes a lot less interesting once he stops playing C, and winds up playing LF in Brooklyn in 2 years.

Regardless, here's a guy inside the BA top 300 we grabbed in the 500's and apparently signed him. So I think if nothing else, thats a good thing.

http://www.ocregister.com/news/sabol-72 ... sparq.html

2009 at the SPARQ testing he won, posted a 6.28.

Looks like he's got speed. Whether he still runs like he did as a 17 yr old after a few more years of catching, who knows. But moving him out to CF looks like, in this instance, probably a good call.

Looks like the OP was a year off (it said he did this in 2010).

Also, here's KLaw after the Area Code games:

Quote:
"Stefan Sabol of Aliso Niguel was already on the radar as a first-round bat for 2010, and he hasn't done anything to hurt his reputation this week. He has great hand speed and squares up pitches left and right, spraying the field with line drives while showing a little pull power in BP. He's a plus-plus runner - apparently he's run a 6.28 60-yard dash - and has a strong arm. The biggest question on Sabol is his position; although he catches now and has the arm and energy for the position, it's probably a waste of his athleticism to leave him there when he could be a plus defensive player at several other spots on the diamond. Even in the outfield he's a first-rounder and he has the tools to play a good center field."

Looks like a guy worth tracking. There's some talent and athleticism here.

Sounds good to me. He insinuated the mets view him in the OF. Byrd did too but Byrd sounded iffy on signing . I wonder why they announced Sabol as a catcher of they planned on moving him. I also wonder if anybody else is headed to a new position

big name after his junior year of HS who has underperformed since.

Sounds about right, and thats works for me at the 530th pick.

If Sabol is in fact a plus runner then he's probably better off in the outfield. No need to waste that tool by leaving him behind the plate.
