Best Value: No. 146– Jared King / OF / Kansas State: I’ll just be blunt, there was no reason for King to fall this low, and when I see some of the names picked ahead of King I wonder if some teams don’t need to take a serious look at their scouting system.

This is my favorite pick outside of Smith and Wilson.

Not sure of the love for the pick, but this is at least indicative of a plan that failed to come to fruition during day 3

What's that?

You can't sign guys you want to pay on Day 2 AND Day 3. This guy will cost more than his slot. Those great UPSIDE!!!! plays will all require bribes to not go to college.

I don't think you can possibly love a Day 1 and 2 of a draft under this format and complain about Day 3. You can complain early and have it become clear LATER what the plan is, but if you guys you like taken in the first 2 days there's just not a lot if room on Day 3.

Ill be interested to see 10, 15 yrs down the road what the success rates on Day 3 of the "new format." I'm going to guess "less than minuscule " across the board.

Yeah, I don't see this as an underslot at all. People doing mock drafts the past 3 months had him as a 2nd or 3rd round talent.

Switch hitter, decent tools, "may" be able to play CF.

More important this is a college player who shouldn't take long. I thought he'd be a good get for us with one of our 3rd rounders.

I think it's near impossible to not like this pick in the 5th round.

Yeah, and if you're using the "He's 19" logic, then I guess the best report a scout could give us is:

"I have no idea. He's a teenager. He may go through 5 arm surgeries between now and his 30th birthday. He may add a pitch. He may lose a pitch. He may put on 30 lbs and add velocity. He may put on 50 lbs and eat his way out of the league. I literally have no idea what he is going to be."

But thats not what these guys are paid to do, nor what we are looking for them to do, right?

Could be wrong, but I think he believes this was an overdraft to save money for later rather than a good prospect.

Why would a second round talent slip to the fifth unless...
A. He's a fifth round talent
B. he has significant signability issues
C. There are questions about talent or character...

I don't think it is B or C...

I think this was a good pick unless he is wanting second round money...I am hoping he signs for a bit less than slot.

Like Koch, I don't think it is prudent to allocate full slot dollars to college players in the first ten rounds...

every evaluator said he was a second round talent and Mets got a steal with this pick... So your saying there is something you know they don't. Who get paid all year to research
