@johnmanuelba: That's 2 missiles off David Thompson's bat, both for sac flies to CF, @CanesBaseball lead 2-0 and getting confident hacks off Logan Shore

Thoughts on David Thompson out of Miami? Sounds like the bat is legit but there are serious questions of whether he can stay on the field, let alone play any defensive position.

Bad athlete, uphill swing. Not even sold that the bat is legit. Would not have taken him there.

This strikes me as contrarianism at its finest. Maybe he's right that contact is going to be a huge problem, but pretty much everyone else seems to see it as a very solid pick in the fourth round.

was about to post this. I'm not that high on the pick so this picked my spirits up somewhat. :D

I find it difficult to complain about any fourth round college pick who has potential to be a star.

"poor athlete" probably means "not fast", but still a weird thing to say about someone recruited to play 2 sports (and, uh, QB no less) at a premiere division 1 sports program.

well, I've been wrong before but he appears slighter than 6'1" 220. I don't love the hitting mechanics, and you can't ignore the long list of injury issues he's had. I know, some will say that had those injuries not been there, he'd have been a 1st or 2nd rounder… I don't know about that, but it does seem like we were in on a bunch of players with similar stories this year (the should have gone higher brigade).

All that said, he has mashed at a big college program so he should be able to do it as a pro too, no? So here's another guy who should be able to step right into A+ ball and do some damage.

And of course, as with so many players we've taken thru the years, doesn't have a great defensive profile (being kind here)…. let's face it, if he doesn't handle 3B well, he's ultimately a 1B only guy which means the bat is his only real path to the show.

Couldn't the long list of injuries be attributed to football? or no?

Not sure about A+. If he's assigned to A+ he'd be the first Sandy guy to be assigned there out of college. Matt Reynolds is the only guy I can think of who was assigned higher than Brooklyn.

I've always loved a good underdog story. Go Mets (2018). I know an underdog when I see one.

Yeah, something just looks "off" with his swing. Not that I'm an expert or anything, and I'm not saying he can't or won't produce in the pros, but it just looks a little strange to me, that's all.

Anyways, for a 4th rounder, I have no complaints. Very interested to see how he performs.

That is of course, correct, and I was jumping the gun a bit but my point is more or less the same.
