Unless he gets more money than expected (Moore) it's a fine pick. I'm not expecting much but if you are going cheap why not a guy who has "somehow" succeeded. + fun build.

Dare I say that its "tons" of fun? I do.

Wonder if they think slimming him down a bit could be a benefit?

The guy is huge and doesn't seem to have much stuff......is this a joke or do the Mets see something no one else sees (other than Mr Taylor is hard to miss, physically)

Probably looking to bank 90% of the slot allocation here.

It's probably going to cost him more to go to Fat Camp this winter than he's going to get paid.....

i don't get all of the negativity. Taylor numbers are very good in a very tough Big XII conference. He gave up 2 runs and no hrs in 57.1 innings. Batters hit .186 against him.

in Alex Nelson's story, he basically is calling Taylor a wasted pick to save money, but yet says:
Quote:
His stuff isn’t awful. He throws a 92-94 mile-per-hour fastball with plenty of sink from a true three-quarters arm slot, pairing it with a mid-80s slider. He’ll pound the lower half of the strike zone with both pitches, aiming not to miss bats but to induce weak contact on the ground
I have seen many of a pitcher at Shea and Citi who couldn't do this.

Will he succeed who knows. The draft is more luck than science after the first couple of rounds.

Also as far weight is concerned, I don't care what he weighs as long as he can get batters out. I have seen many a tubby be very successful in MLB. How about the fat version of CC, and yes I know I am dating myself but way back the Reuschels(Paul and Rick), and Lolich.

You have seen many pitchers at Shea and Citi who couldn't do this...against major league hitters, with major league umpires.

I'm sure you'll agree that almost every one of the pitchers you've seen at Shea or Citi could have had success pounding fastballs against the Bix XII with Big XII umpires.

This, and if you're going to do that, it makes sense to do it with a guy who has performed in the past in the hopes that maybe he'll be one of those flukey guys who gets it done even when it doesn't make sense for him to do so.

Mark, If Nelson's scouting report is accurate, it sounds like his stuff is pretty good. True the question is can he do it against major leaguers,, but can't that be said for everyone in the draft. At least this kid has something to work with, and he should come in pretty cheap.

You are comparing MLB to Div 1 baseball. Everyone in the majors came from somewhere (duh), whether its College ball, HS, or international development camps. I assume the majority of major leaguers had good stats these stats may have been against lesser competition but the scouts projected their production.

Compare him as a prospect. A prospect whose stats may or may not prove to be a true indicator of his talent. All I am saying is give the fat kid a chance.
