BA's #86 prospect in Florida.

is this a joke? I don't see him ranked by BA.

They have rankings for individual states beyond the top 500.

I don't see it. For some reason I can't get it to show anything past 500.

I imagine noone will be surprised by this, but....

"Mazeika expects to sign his first professional in the next few days before heading out to his first assignment, which he expects to be with either the rookie league Kingsport (Tenn.) Mets or the Class-A short season Brooklyn Cyclones."

@Astromets31: Per @octonion, Mets 8th round pick (Mazeika, +.116) and 28th round pick (Dimino, +.082) are both above avg framers

Alex Nelson write up:

Doesn't it sound a lot like when we drafted Plawecki? I know it most likely won't be but interesting article

If you read them side by side - not so much.

http://www.amazinavenue.com/2012/6/5/30 ... n-plawecki

Nelson questions whether Mazeika will even stick at catcher and he thinks the bat is better than his numbers have looked this year and Mazeika's best defensive attribute is his arm, which is Plaw's worst.

Both guys are flat swing, low K rate guys, so there's some similarity, but not enough to "sound alike" I think. His Plawecki writeup is much more positive, calling him a potentially smart pick even if he was drafted earlier than expected. He likes Mazeika for an 8th rounder - which is a little different than liking someone as a supplemental first rounder.

In terms of value, I'd put him similar to Brosher right now. I'm sure some would disagree, but Brosher's a big power guy, with lots of questions on how he'll handle teh Catching spot defensively (and he's still only got 2 games catching so far). Brosher, in addition to his power, K's a lot, so his bat isn't a sure thing.

Mazeika doesn't have Brosher's power but he has some power and draws walks and he's a lefty hitting catcher - which is always a plus.

As far as our catching prospects go, I might put Mazeika (for now - we'll know more when short season ball starts), but for now, just ahead of Brosher. (Ali Sanchez is still well above them both in prospect-ville and Plaw probobly exceeds rookie limits this year).

Garcia - hasn't shown enough yet and I consider guys like Carillo & Plaia, interesting curiosities but not exactly prospects.

1) Plaw (for now)
2) Sanchez
3) Mazeika
4) Brosher
5) Nido - who's still a long shot, but who knows.
6) Plaia - bat is making some progress (I'm torn on 5 & 6, could go either way)
7) Garcia - still betting on the large signing bonus - a little.
8) Carillo - who could see majors next year in a Johnny Monell/Juan Centeno kind of way, with a little luck.

I'd put Juan Uriarte in there.

I completely forgot about him, but I also have a really hard time ranking guys when they're still in DSL - which almost applies to Sanchez too, but enough people have said good stuff about him where I'm OK with Sanchez getting listed.

Where would you put Uriarte?
