I have followed west coast baseball and if ur a pitcher from california and can dominate D1 hitters, you must be decent. Conlon maybe a little undersized but believe me this kid is a bulldog. He takes the hill with the attitude that no one is gonna beat him. He actually was up to 92mph on an Atlanta braves scout gun in Santa Barbara last week and can throw 4 pitches for strikes at any time in the count. Don't knock this kid till u sample him first. His numbers in 3yrs at USD are thru the roof. And remember, that's D1 baseball, not since high school teams where u face about 3 quality hitters per team

The report published on PJ Conlon is from 3 years ago when he was an incoming freshman at USD. He actually is 88-90 with an above average slider, a curveball that he throws at two speeds, a fastball that he locates very well and a developing change up. Last week in Santa Barbara, according to an Atlanta brave scout Conlon hit 92 on the scouts gun. Can throw all 4 pitches for strikes anytime in the count and will not overpower and he maybe alittle undersized but keeps hitters off balance and gets outs(isn't that what this games all about anyway) I have seen way too many raw, projectable throwers put holes in more backstops than I can count, this kid can pitch and has the heart of a winner

Conlon is an old fashioned pitcher and the report of 85-88 was from 3 years ago when he was an incoming freshman at USD. He actually is 88-90 touching 92 at times with an above average slider, a curveball that he throws at two speeds, a fastball in which he can locate at will and a developing change up. He can throw 4 for strikes at anytime in the count. He dominated D1 baseball the last 3 years. 22-7 with a 2.84 ERA. 257 IP, 226H, 60BB, 218K's. Was a 1st freshman all-American and a two time All-WCC first team selection. Not to mention a two time All-WCC Academic selection. A kid who maybe alittle undersized but is a bulldog who brings an attitude to the hill Everytime out. The kid can really pitch

"Old fashioned"

"bulldog"

"attitude"

"really pitch"

So you're saying he's light on stuff?

And it’s the performance they are betting on because the scouting reports are luke warm. Conlon doesn’t have premium velocity, a killer breaking ball, or a tempting changeup to offer. His fastball can hit 92, but typically sits 86-90. He also brings an average mid-70s curve as his go-to out pitch, but also throws a changeup and slider to some effect. All in all, it’s a pretty hittable arsenal, even in the West Coast Conference, so it speaks to his ability to pitch that he’s been successful.

And that’s what scouts mostly talk about in connection to Conlon. They like his demeanor on the mound, and the way he’ll mix and match his speeds and locations to maximize the effects of his limited toolset. He genuinely knows what he’s about on the hill.

Mechanically, he’s mostly clean. He strides aggressively toward home plate, but there is some length to his arm action and a bit of the dreaded inverted W. He slings the ball from a three-quarters arm slot which does give his pitches some nice movement, particularly some sink. All in all, it’s a mixed bag, and the motion may preclude him from starting.

Otherwise, he’s a polished product, and perhaps the one player in this draft most likely to see Double-A. Whether he gets any higher is more difficult to guess, but, when in doubt, bet on the lefty.

yeah same as I indicated with Sixto, I felt this wasn't a guy to go far over slot on. But still nice to get him I suppose.
