Per someone who has ties to St Johns seems he heard Hackimer may not sign due to being lowballed as of now

I'm guessing it was more than the $1000 he's going to be offered as a senior.....

Now I'm curious to what he was offered.

Second person confirming what I heard about Hackimer. This time it is a person connected to his Cape Cod team.

@nymets945 not 100% sure, heard rumors that he might go back to St. Johns. Will try to talk to him this week & get a better answer.

Thats probably really not the point.

100k vs. 10k, in the grand scheme of your career and life, is not going to be all that meaningful in the end. Its nicer to have the 100k at age 21, but neither amount is going to change your life in the long haul.

He'd be a 15th round college reliever entering an organization, which puts him way behind the 8 ball in terms of priority off the bat.

Joe Smith is an example of what being a 3rd round college reliever looks like with regards to where the org places you. He's probably betting on himself to have a better senior year and be some teams' "priority" senior sign early in the draft and set himself up better off the bat.

Not really, tho.

He'll be some teams version of like... Paul Sewald.

Nothing but a pool saver. He'll get 1k.

Or LJ Mazzilli? Or den Dekker from years ago?

He's betting on himself. I find it odd that people would criticize him for not simply falling into line, signing his standard signing bonus (that is not anything remotely approaching lifesaving money considering its basically his sole meaningful earnings for the foreseeable future) and committing to playing for Brooklyn for the next 3 summers.

There are guys who are preferred seniors every year. Not every single senior sign is thrown away into the trash. He thinks he can do better than a middle round guy to be thrown into a pack and possible never get out. Good for him.

Other guys do it too. Look here: http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/co ... -leverage/

Just from that article, Benton Moss, RHP from UNC, went from a 15th round pick as a junior to a 6th round pick as a senior and signed for $167,500.

BTW, Hackimer's killing it in the Cape this summer so maybe just taking this to the end to try to bump up those bonus demands (they have plenty of money) with every good outing.

5 saves, 0.69 ERA, 17 Ks in 13 IP.

Looks like the Mets will be able to use the rest of their available bonus money to throw at Hackimer to see if he will sign.
