OK, I know this is a kind of dumb and pointless question, but 4-5 years from now, we could be having another Mike Trout conversation, so who did you like still on board at #14 . . . (*and footnote, you can say Aiken if you would have picked him, but we all know the Mets probobly wouldn't)

Other question - was it a deep draft in the mid-teens or more spread out? I get the feeling it was more spread out.

Was there a clear consensus guy? Speak now and we can bump this in 4 years.

I've always loved a good underdog story. Go Mets (2018). I know an underdog when I see one.

Hard to say now and especially knowing so little about most of these guys but I was impressed with Richie Martin in a game I saw last week. I could make a case for Walker Buehler too. Vandy has produced so many quality players. It's really hard to be right about an 18 yo arm that high in the draft after the first few elite talents get drafted.

But I do know that I'm really disappointed they didn't draft Bader in rd 3. I think he's going to be very good. I know hard throwing LHer and all but I just think quality OFers are harder to come by today than arms are.

Same. Just didn't research much since I knew we didn't have the 1st rounder.

It didn't seem like a particularly great draft though from the little reading up that I did...

Yeah, and if you're using the "He's 19" logic, then I guess the best report a scout could give us is:

"I have no idea. He's a teenager. He may go through 5 arm surgeries between now and his 30th birthday. He may add a pitch. He may lose a pitch. He may put on 30 lbs and add velocity. He may put on 50 lbs and eat his way out of the league. I literally have no idea what he is going to be."

But thats not what these guys are paid to do, nor what we are looking for them to do, right?

It's regarded as one of the weakest first rounds in recent years. The depth (meaning the other 39 rounds) is said to be average.

It did seem that way watching the draft and then the projections many had for the players taken in round 1.

And yeah, round 2 forward seemed like your typical draft with HS kids with upside and interesting/potentially solid college players + Jucos.

Curiously, they didn't need to go that far over to sign him

Though they could have:

- and to answer my own question, I'm also in the "no idea - I didn't research it" camp, but I think I'd have gone a college guy, closer to the show cause I think the team is close to a break-out and another guy like that could be good timing.

LTKfRGM, you should be on RGM. We're all chewing our nails awaiting the draft and their eventual "mess up" :D :) :(

I'll be posting there this week [-o<

It's inevitable. And I'll be there to witness it in person. :x
