To give the draft an overall B with all the signings the mets were able to bring in

Was this a good trade-off? Letting go of Murphy and in return drafting Kay and Planck?

There's no way to say. If the mets offer Murphy 3-4 years and he signs here, then they probably don't trade for Neil Walker and probably don't sign Colon. As good as Murphy's been, I think Walker + Colon beats Murphy + Niese.

If you ignore that and just look at Murphy's numbers, then 9 times out of 10 you take the MVP season over the 2 prospects, unless your team is in the dumps, then you take the 2 prospects. So, there's no answer. Both ways of looking at it are valid.

Ofcourse, using 20/20 hindsight, they sign Murphy and trade for Walker, but that wasn't really an option going into the season. Not with Wilmer & Wright and Cabrera in the mix.

Now that the dust has cleared...
1. Dunn...solid pitching prospect...not Matt Harvey exciting, but solid
2. Cleveland...I think the cheaper of the two prep arms moves quicker...
3. Planck...steep price, high upside
4. Kay...he's going to be a MLB starter, probably after TJS
5. Viall...raw, fun tools
6. Alonso...raw power is always fun to follow.

Sleepers...Rivera, Holderman

Most likely don't sign Cespedes either

We will, of course, be discussing this a lot in the coming weeks. I have to say that I DO believe the Mets will offer him a 3 year extension (making the entire commitment 6 years, including this year). With Wright likely being an insurance reimbursement after he tries to come back next year (or maybe he doesn't) and deciding it is just too much and the dollars recouped from the expiring contracts of Colon, Walker and deAza, the Mets would be totally stupid not to bring back the one player that locks up the offense and makes this team a contender for the foreseeable future.

We shall see but not keeping Cespedes would be one of the worst decisions this organization has ever made. He is in his prime and it would be foolish to think his falloff will be rapid. Besides that, there isn't a Mets fan anywhere who would agree that letting Cespedes go would be a good thing.
