Amazing.

The good news is that he has only allowed 2 hits all season in his 4.1 innings.

Whoever that scout was: good try, good effort to get yourself noted for making a pick that was the exact opposite of scouting the box score...but yeesh. Can't exactly act surprised that a kid who was an awful high school pitcher can't get professional hitters, no matter the level, out.

Not sure if you're mocking here or not, but it was a good pick. Didn't waste too much money (200k? I believe) to take a shot in the dark on a guy who might clean up mechanically, maybe add a few ticks, and develop into something.

Take this type of pick 100/100 times over a Jeff Kaplan or Chris Schwinden, that's for sure (and I'm FULLY aware in an alternative universe Chris Schwinden's name is Dillon Gee).

Was that post in the context of you giving me a hypothetical "you can pick Schwinden, or you can pick Herrmann." because in that hypothetical, I'd pick Herrmann 100 times out of 100 and tell you it's a good pick relative to picking Schwinden. Or Kaplan. Or Brandon Moore. Or Danny Muno, etc...

Didn't Muno sign for 10 grand? In terms of value, I have no problem with a few Muno's in the 8-10 range. I also kind of hate calling people out for liking a draft pick, especially an underslot or a HS guy who signs for 100K.

Look, if you hate the Cecchini pick, fine, though his bat actually looks OK now and he's outperformed Courtney Hawkins who was the guy most people wanted, but it's a bit much to hate a guy taken round 19 from HS who signs for 100K or a guy round 8 who signs for 10 K. The 8th round guy for 10 K is standard in the new system and the HSer for 100 K is worth a look. No shame in liking those picks.

OK well, I can't speak to my mindset from 3 years ago, but I think my overall point was taking those kinda shots is preferable to the college guy who'll never get past A+ anyway.

"College guy" is far too generic. They drafted a few college players this year who should easily make it up the ladder. Problem prior to this year is that they've been drafting only the most non-athletic, one-dimensional college position players. This draft felt like a change in philosophy was put in place.

Taking a shot on a Dan Hermann, and taking money out of your bonus pool, is not a better choice than anything. There are equivalent bad choices. There is passing on the pick altogether. But there is no "at least this is better than X." That was literally the floor of a bad draft decision, along with other horrible ideas.

Well, as I said, I can't speak to my mindset at the time, but yes, I would overall agree with you that giving up 100k from that bonus pool on Dan Herrmann was an awful awful decision.
