Mets 6th round pick @chris_cmv is a member of your 2016 @Kingsport_Mets #Mets

That's what I would have figured.

I was hoping Brooklyn, but Kingsport makes more sense, I suppose.

The limelight is something he can look forward to later.

I love the pick. I hope he is a good student as there are a lot of bad habits to correct.

Alex Nelson thinks Viall might be used as a reliever, not just this year but as a permanent move.

Former @StanfordBSB pitcher Chris Viall, a @SportsSoquel alum, hit 101 mph with one of his fastballs last night #scscore

"This is as big a stuff -- fastball velocity, fastball movement, breaking ball -- as you will find in the draft," Tanous said. "His command has been off this past year. We felt like this was a really good chance at a really good spot, the sixth round, to take a shot at somebody. I'm a firm believer that at certain points in the draft -- and it may be in the 15th round, it may be in the sixth or seventh -- but you have to take a shot at some big upside. Viall probably has the biggest upside that we took. ... Chris Viall just has such enormous stuff. Once we get some command and control with him, I think he's a guy who is going to move up in the system really quickly."

- via Rubin

I will say this seems very pie in the sky but the one place in the org where they walk the walk is developing pitchers, so I won't knock this yet. Long odds tho.

And btw, when are they going to go for big upside on an OFer..?

well clocking 100. they talked about power and at 6-9 that would look great in front of familia

I get that 100 is exciting, but where in the pre-draft scouting reports did it say that he just needed to add some velocity and he'd be good to go?

I mean, isn't this a guy who always threw hard (even before he had, like, 5 days in our organization to learn so many new things) and yet still wasn't much of an effective pitcher in college, or one that was even used all that much given all of the other issues?

Entirely true on all accounts. I think the point is that sometimes velocity is overstated in scouting reports. If he's still throwing up triple digit fastballs in Kingsport, good to know the scouting is right on velocity. Hopefully, Mets will teach him how to throw 97 and around the strike zone.
